Structural Design and Drawings of 6.0 m Diameter Wet Well and 6.14m dia pump house

SECTION-1 Design of Pump House Above Wetwell

Structure consist of Inlet Chamber, Coarse Screen Channel, and Outlet Chamber which are
connected to wet well and the Pump House above Wet Well, pump house is analysed and designed as
framed structure. The analysis has been carried out using staad pro v8i software and design is done
manually. The design structure is been carried out as per Indian codes.

Code of practice:
• I.S. 456: 2000 Code of Practice for plain and reinforced concrete
• I.S. 875: Reaffirmed 1997 Code of Practice for design loads for buildings and structures
(Part 1 to Part 5)
• SP-16

GEOMETRY:

Geometry, physical properties have been considered as per the structural drawings.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES:
Columns: 230mm x 450mm
Beams: 300mm x 600mm
230mm x 450mm
Slab thickness: 150mm

MATERIAL PROPERTIES:
Density of concrete: 24kN/cum
Grade of Concrete: M25 FOR RAFT
Grade of Concrete: M30 OTHER THEN RAFT
Grade of Steel: Fe 500

SAFE BEARING CAPACITY:

SBC of 12 T/Sqm has been considered at a depth as noted in drawing.

LOADING:
(Dead Load - DL)
Self weight of the structure (Beam & columns) is automatically computed by the software.
However, the components not modelled such as Slab, floor finish have been applied as super Imposed
load on the structure.

(Live Load - LL):

Live loads : 1.5kN/m2 (Roof)
Super imposed load : 10 kN/m2 (Floor)

(Crane Load -CL):

Crane Capacity 7.5T
LOAD COMBINATIONS:
Following combinations are considered while performing structural designs:
Serviceability Criteria : DL+LL+CL
Strength Criteria : 1.5(DL+LL+CL)
Foundation sizing is done from the above load combinations by the software program.

BOUNDARY CONDITION:
Fixed boundary conditions have been assumed at foundation level. Structural analysis & designs
bare performed using Staad pro v8i software. Following figures shows Finite element model, element
numbers and element lengths. Details of the Design of footing, column, beam and slab are available in
this document.

ANALYSIS RESULTS:
Reaction forces due to various load combinations as listed in the above article have been
reported.

STRUCTURAL DESIGN:
Structural design of structural members has been carried out as per Indian codes confirming to
IS 456-2000.
Design of columns: Columns are designed for bi-axial bending. Design moments are obtained
considering initial moments from analysis, minimum eccentricity and slenderness moments. Minimum
eccentricity moments are considered only if initial moments from analysis are less than minimum
eccentricity moments. Effective length factor is assumed to be 0.80. Columns are designed for the load
combination as listed above.
