General Guidelines for Project Work

1. Paper Size & Margins


 Standard paper size (A4 size)
 Margins on all pages are required to be:

Left Right Top Bottom

1 inch or 2.54 cm 1 inch or 2.54 cm 1 inch or 2.54 cm 1 inch or 2.54 cm

1.5 inch on left

2. Typeface
 Only one single typeface (font)- Times New Roman
 Italic and bold may be used through the entire project work, including title page,
acknowledgement, bibliography and appendices.
3. Font Size
 Only twelve-point font size (12pt) is acceptable.

For Example:

Chapter 1(Font Size 16 Bold)

Topic: Introduction (Font Size 14 Bold)

Content: (The study report is focused on…….(Font Size 12)

4. Justification

Project shall be fully justified Left Justification


5. Spacing /Printing
 All pages of the project work are required to be double spaced. Single spaced in
only permitted in the cases of extensive Table of Contents, List of tables, List of
figures, List of Symbols.
 Project work must be printed single-sided. Double –sided printing is not
permitted.
6. Numbers
 All pages in the project work must be numbered, with only exception of the title
page.
 All page numbers must be either in the lower centre or on the top or lower right of
the page when the page is viewed in portrait view.
7. Prefatory Pages
 Must be numbered with lower case Roman numbers (e.g. i, ii,iii,iv etc.)

Page “i” should not appear on the title page

Abstract is always page “ii”

Body of Project work

Must be numbered with lower case Arabic numbers (1,2,3,4etc)

The first page of the project work is page “1”

 Subsequent pages are numbered continuously including bibliographies,


appendices and index.

Title Page

 All items on the Title Page must follow the model exactly as title page template.
 All items on the Title page must be centred within the margins.
 All items on the Title page must be double-spaced. This includes the title and the
name of the graduate programme.
 Name of the Board must be in uppercase letter.
 The full title of the project work cannot be longer than 240 characters including
letters and spaces.
 The spine title of the project work cannot be longer than 41 characters
 The word “by” shall be in lowercase.
 The name of the author must be in upper-and lowercase letter, and identical both
place on the title page. Shortening or changing the name in the copyright area is
unacceptable. The name used must be author’s legal name as it appears in the
Affiliation Board record.
 The full name of the degree for which the project work is presented must be
written out, e.g. Degree of Diploma in Hospitality Management.
 The full official name of the graduate programme must be written out, e.g.
BACHELOR IN HOTEL MANAGEMENT.
 There should be comma (,) between the name of the month and the year. This
date must be the month and year; the final copy of the project work is submitted
to the Affiliation Board.
 The universal copyright symbol must be appearing to the left of your name.

Abstract

Abstract is Project work presented by candidates for Bachelor in Hotel Management


and it must be no longer than 250 words

Table of Contents

The Table of Contents must include a listing of all items in the Project Work. Heading
and sub-heading must be consistent between the Table of Contents and the body of the
text.
Formatting

Chapter 1

Introduction

1.1Introductory Paragraph

In this chapter, general field of interest in one paragraph (100 words) and end with the sentence
that states what study will accomplish.

Next paragraph must be a summary of unsolved issues. The focus of the background of the
problem is where a gap in the knowledge is found in current research.

1.2Statement of the Problem

Arising from the background, statement is the exact gap between the knowledge and findings.

1.3Purpose of the Study

The purpose of the study is contained one or two paragraphs that identify the research design
such as qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods. Most of these factors will be discussed in
chapter three.

1.4Significance of the Study

The significance is a statement of why it is important to determine the answer to the gap in the
knowledge, and is related to improving the human condition. To contribution to the body of
knowledge is described, and summarizes who will be able to use the knowledge to make better
decision.

1.5Methodology

The process used to collect information and data for the purpose of making decision. The
methodology may include publication research, interviews, surveys and other techniques and
could include both present and historical information.
In the methodology section, two main issues are addressed:

1-The method used to gather data.

2- The method used to analysis data.

In the chapter three you should make the plan about the method you use to collect samples, the
organization that you access to gather data.

1.6 Limitations of the Study

Includes the limitations like time factor, availability or access to the information and others

Chapter 2

Literature Review

2.1 Review of Literature

A literature review is an evaluative report of information found in the literature related to your
selected area of study. The review should describe, summarise, evaluate and clarify this
literature.

A literature review should include:

 An overview of the subject or issue along with the objectives of the literature review.
 Explanation of how each work is similar to and how it varies from others.
 Conclusions as to which pieces are best considerate in their argument, are most
convincing of their opinions, and make the greatest contribution to the understanding and
developing of their area of research.

Steps to prepare a literature review

 Define your topic


 Search for materials- use search tools e.g. library catalogue, hospitality books written by
other writers etc.
 Evaluate what you have found
 Analysis and interpretation

Chapter 3

Data Presentation &Analysis

Data analysis is a process of inspecting, cleaning, transforming and modelling data with the goal
of discovering use full information, suggesting conclusions and supporting decision- making.
Data analysis is to describe the data will be presented in the results section e.g. mean, mode,
median or other statistical tools. Bar- diagram, pie charts are used to interpret the data or
information.

The data analysis can be quantitative and qualitative.

Chapter 4

Conclusion and Summary

This is the most important part because it provides the information the reader needs to judge
study’s validity
