Objective Students shall be able to:


1. Know the different habitats – their biotic and abiotic
components.
2. Understand the importance of animals in a given habitat.
3. Compare the relationship between the surroundings and
body parts of animals.
4. Differentiate between biotic and abiotic components,
habitat and adaptation.
5. Analyze and understand the effect of change of climate of
a place on the animals.
6. Analyze the reasons of change in the climate.
7. Understand the reasons for the endangering and
extinction of animals in wildlife areas like Jim Corbett and
Gir Forest.
8. Value: Develop love for nature and concern for plants and
animals.

Time Required 4 Periods of 40 minutes each

Ice Breaker The teachers will ask the following questions to the students;
Activity 1. Do you find all the animals in all the places ?
2. Has the number of animals increased or decreased over
the past few years?
3. Has the biotic and abiotic components of a given habitat
increased or decreased over the years?
The teacher will get responses from the students and then she
will explain how the continuous changes in climatic conditions
is affecting adaptation of different animals.

Methodology of The teacher will ask the students to reason out why the
Activity population of animals in Gir and Jim Corbett National Parks is
decreasing.
1. The class will be divided into groups for carrying out
activities.
2. The first group will perform role play where the present
and past (80 years ago) scenario of animal population
will be depicted and analze how man is responsible for
it.
3. The second group will make posters and write slogans
on “Saving Animals and Environment”.
4. The third group will write poems on “Saving Animals
and Environment” and read it out in the class.
5. The fourth group will make PPT depicting the changes
in climate over the years and it’s effect on animals.

Learning 1. Students will learn how to work in groups.


Outcomes 2. They will learn how to present their work in front of an
audience.
3. They will understand the importance of saving and
conserving the environment.
4. They will learn the importance of ecosystem and food
chain.

Self Evaluation During the activity, the students will actively learn from the
and Follow up work of different groups. After the activity gets completed, they
will understand their role in preserving the natural habitat of
animals. They would also be cognizant about the ways of
saving and reviving a dying habitats.
