Classroom Guidelines: Mathematics is a field of study that requires diligent practice. For that
reason, it is incumbent upon you to develop productive study habits, seek help when necessary, and
respect your peers. To most effectively learn this semester, you will be expected to follow the
guidelines listed below. Here’s to a great semester!

Grading Policy:
Component Percentage Value Toward Final Grade
Homework 25%
Exams (Three tests, plus one final) 50% (Exams 10% each; Final worth 20%)
Quizzes (In class) 10%
Participation (In class/Projects) 15%
Total 100%

Homework: Homework related to current lecture topics will be assigned daily. Students are
responsible for handing homework in on time. Late homework will not be accepted without a
legitimate reason. That said, each student will be given three golden tickets to account for one
homework assignment each. Each golden ticket allows for a homework assignment to be bypassed
and full credit given for the assignment. (Be wise is using your tickets!)

Exams: There will be three exams and one final. Each of the three general exams count 10%
toward your final grade. The final exam is worth 20% of your total grade. Exams are closed book
(i.e., no notes, texts, notecards, etc.) and a calculator is allowed. For each of the general exams you will
be allowed to do test corrections in order to earn up to a possible 10% points back on your test (i.e.,
sorry, no extra credit for grades above 100%). *NOTE: All exams must be taken on the scheduled

exam date unless prior agreement to reschedule the exam have been approved by the instructor (i.e.,
only legitimate reasons for exam rescheduling will be valid and they must be approved before the
exam date).

Quizzes: Every week there will be a quiz (unless there is a test that week) over the material we have
covered during the prior week. You can use a calculator, but no notes will be allowed. Quizzes will
account for 10% of your total grade.

Participation: Classroom participation counts 5% toward one’s total grade. Your participation will
be assessed by the quality and quantity of interaction you contribute to class. The remaining 10% of
the participation grade will come from group assignments and individual project presentations (i.e.,
projects details will be discussed throughout the semester).

Extra Credit: There will be no extra credit awarded in this class. Please take advantage of office
hours and homework help sessions to prepare yourself to success. Each of you can succeed, if you
so choose.

Grading Scale
Letter Grade Percentage Range
A 90-100%
B 80-89%
C 70-79%
D 60-69%
F Less than 60%

Absence/Tardy Policy: Each student is responsible for material covered in class. If you will be absent for
a legitimate reason (i.e., doctor’s appointment, sporting event, etc.) you must communicate this will your
instructor or you will be marked for an UNEXCUSED absence. There is a grace of two unexcused absences
for which no grade penalty will deducted. After two unexcused absences you will be marked down 1% of
your final grade for each additional absence (so, please, do not miss class unless you have a legitimate reason
to do so). Likewise, your parents will be notified if this becomes an issue. We will start class once the period-
bell has rung. Please be respectful of your peers and be in class before the bell has chimed. After being tardy
more than three times, students will receive an unexcused absence for each additional tardy (see policy
above). Choose to be on time!

Academic Integrity: Be sure to read and follow our high school honor code. All student work must be
completed with integrity and compliance with these rules. All infractions (e.g., representing another’s work as
one’s own, cheating on exams, plagiarizing, etc.) will be subject to severe disciplinary action including the
possibility of suspension and failing the course. If you have any question as to whether an action is
inappropriate, please contact a supervisor. Δ
