Task 2:
1. Explain the relationship between the floor area to the average maintained illumination on a
certain space?
- In order to compute the illuminance of a certain light source on a given area, it needs the
area of the given space where the light hits and the luminous flux of the light source.
3. What is the difference between Light Emitting Diodes and Tungsten Filament Bulb? Explain
your answer in terms of power consumptions, heat emitted, illumination given, etc.
a) Mechanism of Producing Light
o Light Emitting Diodes (LED) produces light when negatively charged
semiconductors are applied voltage, causing electrons to combine which leads to
a unit of light. On the other hand, Tungsten Filament Bulb or incandescent bulb
generate light when electric current flows through the heating of a tungsten
filament.
b) Durability
o LED light bulbs are durable and have a life span of approximately 50,000 hours.
On the other hand, Tungsten Filament Bulb are not durable and have a lifespan of
approximately 1,000 hours.
c) Cost
o LED light bulbs are more expensive than Tungsten Filament Bulb.
d) Power Consumption
o LED light bulbs consume less power because they do not use a filament in the
creation of light. However, Tungsten Filament Bulbs consume a lot of power
because of the use of filaments which consume more power than the light
produced.
e) Brightness
o LED light bulbs are much brighter than Tungsten Filament Bulbs.
5. Why Fluorescent Tube Light Is Considered Better Than Tungsten Filament Bulb?
- A fluorescent tube light bulb produces less heat, so it is more efficient. It can produce
between 50 and 100 lumens per watt. This makes fluorescent tube light bulbs four to six
more efficient than tungsten filament bulbs. It last usually 6,000 – 15,000 hours. Up to
35,000 hours.
