Assistive Technology is anything that can help improve students with learning disabilities. The prices of these
items range from nothing to expensive. These items provide students with the equal opportunity to learn the
same as their peers. Any of these items listed below could be used at home or school.

Text-to-Speech Assistive and Speech-to-Text Programs:


Text-to-Speech and Speech-to-Text is software programs that are downloaded on the computer. This is
to assist students who have a hard time reading independently. These disabilities can include dyslexia, a visual
impairment, or another learning disability.

A timer:
This can help a student who has a difficult time managing their time. It can be used to help a student not
spend too much time on a problem. It can also be used to let a student know when it is time to change tasks.
This helps from always having to tell a student to hurry; now they have ownership in their learning.
Seat Cushions:
These help students who have sensory disabilities or who struggle to stay in their seat. These cushions
allow students a little mobility to move around without getting out of their chair. The use of these cushions help
keep student engaged in their learning.

Modified Calculators:
A lot of students with disabilities have a difficult time in math and most of the calculators that are used
in school have small screens that are difficult to read. Students with dyslexia or other disabilities may have
trouble with the order of numbers. There are several different types that could help even those that talk so the
student knows which number or operation was pushed. There are calculators that have larger screens and
numbers that make it easier for students with visual disabilities.

Pencil Grips:
Pencil grips are used to help students with their fine motor skills that have a difficult time holding a
pencil or other writing utensils. They help students have better hand positioning and movement while they
write. They come in many different shapes and sizes.
