1. ¿What is the cause or environmental problem generated according to the article
and where does it develop?

At present, Chromium contamination is increasing worldwide, this type of contamination is

basically caused by sewage from tanneries.

According to a study, an outbreak of environmental pollution has been found in an urbanized

area of tanneries in Hazaribagh in the city of Dhaka, where around 7.7 million liters of liquid
waste per day could be primarily responsible for the contamination of the Buriganga River and
the canals in Hazaribagh.

2. What diseases can occur due to Cr management according to the article

Chromium contamination is a global environmental problem, which brings toxic, genotoxic,

mutagenic and carcinogenic effects, causing negative health problems such as skin lesions,
ulceration and perforation of the nasal septum, perforation of the eardrum, decreased
spermatogenesis and lung carcinoma, which put the population's life at great risk.

3. ¿What is the effect of co-exposure to Cr (VI) and Cr (III)?

The International Agency for Research on Cancer classified Cr (VI) and Cr (III) as a major
carcinogen of Group 1 and Group 3, respectively. Therefore, it is believed that the carcinogenic
toxicity of single exposure to Cr (III) is limited. In a study conducted in the city of Dhaka, it was
possible to examine the effect of the co-exposure to Cr (VI) and Cr (III) in this range of
relationships on the independent growth of the anchorage of the HaCaT keratinocytes. As seen
in the image:

4. ¿What is the conclusion of the study?

Our environmental epidemiological study, focused on Chromium contamination in the water of

the Buriganga River and canals containing sewage from tanneries in the city of Dhaka, showed
that the carcinogenicity of Cr (VI) increases in the presence of Cr (III). which leads to analyze the
importance of eliminating the levels of chromium present in the water..
