1. What is the cause or environmental problem generated according
to the article and where is it developed?
The cause is to demonstrate an efficient countermeasure for a global
problem that is the environmental contamination by Cr produced by
the tanneries.
This article takes place in the city of Dhaka, Bangladesh. The
Buriganga River is monitored and is derived from Hazaribagh.
2. What diseases can be presented by the handling of Cr according to
the article?
It has toxic, genotoxic, mutagenic and carcinogenic effects that cause
negative health problems such as skin lesions, ulceration and
perforation of the nasal septum, perforation of the eardrum,
decreased spermatogenesis and lung carcinoma.
3. What is the effect of co-exposure to Cr (VI) and Cr (III)?
In the possible proportions in the canal water at Hazaribagh, it
synergistically promotes the transforming activity of human HaCaT
non-tumory keratinocytes with activated MEK / ERK and AKT.
4. What is the conclusion of the study?
The conclusion is that it was demonstrated that MF-HT, a low cost
and high efficiency depurative can be used for the elimination of Cr
(VI) and Cr (III) and it is completely necessary the elimination of Cr
(III) since this potentiates effects of carcinogenicity of Cr (VI)
therefore a feasible countermeasure was provided.
5. Support why this article is relevant to the environmental
epidemiology course.
Because we learn to see the importance of this course in our lives, we
see how the environment affects our inhabitants and shows us why it
is important to study well the cases that come to us in order to give a
very good solution to the problems , but I think that the most
important thing in these cases is to be able to observe the way in
which the researchers cover the problem and weaken it slowly.
Seeing the way in which we must work helps us to be very clear
about what form we should take when be necessary.
