Version Requirements
About This Chapter

This chapter describes the version mappings between the iManager U2000
V200R017C50SPC200 and the operating system (OS), between the iManager U2000
V200R017C50SPC200 and the NE software version of each product.
1.1 Product Version

1.2 Configuration
The U2000 can be installed and deployed directly on the OS or virtual OS of a physical
machine. Deployment of the U2000 on a physical machine or a virtual machine requires
certain hardware resources. This topic describes the corresponding software logical structure
and hardware/software configuration requirements for deployment of the U2000 on a physical
machine or a virtual machine.
1.2.1 Hardware Configuration

This topic describes the hardware configuration requirements for the U2000 physical
machines server.
Configuration Principles
When planning the hardware configurations of the U2000 server, observe the following
principles:
 Select proper hardware configurations according to the network scale, capacity
expansion plan, hardware costs, and other information. The hardware configurations
cannot be lower than that required by the network scale. For example, a common-scale

network can use the hardware configurations for a large-scale network, but a large-scale
network cannot use the hardware configurations for a common-scale network.
 If an HA system deployment scheme is used, select the same hardware configurations for
the primary and secondary sites.
 Configure independent uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for the NMS server. This can
avoid some serious problems such as hardware damage, system restoration failure, and
data loss caused by abnormal power failure.
Configuration Requirements
Table 1-1 lists the standard hardware delivery configurations for physical machines of this
version. The hardware configurations are the same for single-server systems, cold backup
systems and HA (Veritas) systems of different network scales. When the U2000 is re-used,
Table 1 lists compatible models in the transport and IP domain and Table 2 lists compatible
models in the access domain.

1.2.2 Software Configurations

This topic describes the software that can be configured for the U2000 server, including
system software and NMS software, and introduces the logical structure of software on the
server.
Software Configuration Requirements

The software for the U2000 physical machines server is as follows:
 System software: It includes the operating system software and database software. To
select the required system software, see 1.2.1 Hardware Configuration. Table 1-3 lists the
configuration standards for the system software.
 High availability software: It refers to the Veritas software that is applicable to only the
high availability system. Table 1-4 lists the high availability software.
 NMS software: It refers to the NMS software developed by Huawei. For details about
the NMS software, see the U2000.
The U2000 supports only the OS in Simple Chinese or English.

The U2000 HA system (Veritas Hot Standby) supports Solaris and SUSE Linux.
Figure 1-3
shows the software logical structure.

 The Veritas volume replicator (VVR) is used to duplicate the U2000 data on the primary
site to the secondary site so that data is synchronized between the two sites in real time.
 The Veritas cluster server (VCS) is used to monitor the system and application service in
real time. If a fault occurs in the hardware or software, the VCS will restart or stop the
application service.

 The Veritas volume manager (VxVM) is used to manage the disks and data volumes of
servers.
1.2.3 Configuration of the U2000 Client

This topic describes the requirements for software and hardware configuration of the U2000
client.
The U2000 client can be installed on Windows. Currently, it cannot be installed on SUSE
Linux or Solaris.
The U2000 software can be installed on the OS only with the simplified Chinese or English
version instead of other language versions.
Table 1-6 shows the hardware and software configuration.

 The upgrade of a single-server system takes two to four hours. The network monitoring
function of the network management system (NMS) is unavailable throughout the
upgrade.
 The upgrade of a high availability (HA) system takes four to six hours. The network
monitoring of the NMS is unavailable only for a short period (30 minutes).
 Some self-defined data may be lost after the upgrade.

Bidirectional A fast and independent hello protocol that delivers millisecond-level link failure

other. If one system fails to receive a BFD packet within the negotiated period, the
system regards that the bidirectional link fails and instructs the upper layer protocol

information of a PW is maintained by the two end PEs of a PW.
pseudo wire An end-to-end Layer 2 transmission technology. It emulates the essential attributes of
emulation a telecommunication service such as ATM, FR or Ethernet in a packet switched
edge-to-edge (PWE3) network (PSN). PWE3 also emulates the essential attributes of low speed time
division multiplexing (TDM) circuit and SONET/SDH. The simulation approximates
to the real situation.
RSVP-TE See Resource Reservation Protocol-Traffic Engineering.
RTN radio transmission node

Resource Reservation An extension to the RSVP protocol for setting up label switched paths (LSPs) in
Protocol-Traffic MPLS networks. The RSVP-TE protocol is used to establish and maintain the LSPs
Engineering by initiating label requests and allocating label binding messages. It also supports
(RSVP-TE) LSP rerouting and LSP bandwidth increasing.
