2 Overview
3 Technical Description
This chapter describes the ECO6910 license file and license-related concepts.
Digital signatures are defined for the common and feature segments separately. Generally,
digital signature authentication on the common segment is performed prior to that on the
feature segment. A license file is valid only when both signatures have been authenticated.
Common Segment
The common segment provides the following information about a license file:
l Copyright information
Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
All rights reserved.
l File description
– LicenseSerialNo: Serial number of the file
– Creator: file creator
– CreatedTime: time when the file was created
l Customer information
– Country: country where the operator is located
– Custom: name of the operator or the customer
– Office: city where the operator is located or the user ID in the contract
l Digital signature
– Sign: digital signature of the common segment
Feature Segment
The feature segment describes the contents of the contract. Feature segments vary with
products and versions.
Item Description
Validity
A license file cannot be activated if any of the following conditions is met:
l The ESN in the license file does not match the actual ECO6910 ESN.
l The version in the license file does not match the running ECO6910 software version.
l The license file is modified.
For a license file that can be activated, the following may occur:
l The license file can be successfully activated if it has not yet expired. Otherwise,
activating the license file will fail.
l The license file remains effective from the date of activation to the end of the grace
period (60 days). Once the grace period elapses, the license becomes invalid, and the
ECO6910 reports ALM-20739 No License and enters the default license state. For the
capacity and functions of the ECO6910 in the default license state, see 3.4 Default
License.
l The ECO6910 reports EVT-22809 License Will Be out of Valid Time every day in the 30
days prior to the expiration date of the license file.
l The ECO6910 reports ALM-20735 Trial Operation of License on the expiration date of
the license file. In this case, replacing the license file is required.
A valid ECO6910 license file must be imported to the directory OMU active workspace\ftp
\license before the license file is activated. Multiple ECO6910 license files can be stored in
this directory.
NOTE
The MML command LST LICENSE can be used to query the license files in the OMU active
workspace.
After the ECO6910 license file is activated, it is copied to the license working directory OMU
active workspace\license.
The OMU checks license consistency at 03:30 every day. If the OMU detects that the license
at the host is inconsistent with that at the OMU, the ECO6910 reports ALM-20734 License
Inconsistency Between OMU and Host.
NOTE
The ALM-20734 License Inconsistency Between OMU and Host must be handled according to the
alarm online help once reported to ensure normal operation of the ECO6910.
3.2.1 Introduction
License control items are contained in the Resource or Function field of a license file in the
form of license control item IDs. In the effective period of a license file, the MML command
DSP LICUSAGE can be used to query the license control items, which are indicated by the
license control item names in the command output. The license control item ID and license
control item name are described as follows:
In the DSP LICUSAGE command output, License Item indicates the license control item name.
ECO6910 licenses, covering basic software and optional features, are sold at a per cell or per
eNodeB basis.
l Basic software required by an optional feature must be purchased together with the
license for the optional feature. The license control items for basic software include:
ECO6910 Basic Software-GSM, ECO6910 Basic Software-UMTS, ECO6910 Basic
Software-LTE FDD, ECO6910 Basic Software-LTE TDD, Hardware Capacity of GSM
and UMTS Coordinated Cell, and Hardware Capacity of LTE FDD and LTE TDD
Coordinated Cell.
l Optional features control resources for optimization features running on the ECO6910.
NOTICE
l After the RVK LICENSE command is executed, the revoked license file cannot be
recovered. Running this command has a great impact on the ECO6910. Therefore,
exercise caution when running this command.
l After the license in use is revoked, the ECO6910 enters a 60-day grace period. The license
file must be replaced within the grace period. If not, the ECO6910 enters the default
license state after the grace period expires, interrupting ongoing services.
l After a license file is revoked, the ECO6910 reports ALM-20735 Trial Operation of
License. The revoked license file cannot be reactivated.
NOTE
The license revocation code is in the format of "LSN: an encrypted string", as indicated by the
"Revoking Code" field shown in Figure 3-1.

NOTE
For details about how to activate, verify, and deactivate an emergency license, see 5 Engineering
Guidelines.
License files are controlled and released by the Huawei License Management Center and
centrally managed on the U2000.
A valid license file allows an authorized ECO6910 to increase capacity and provide more
functions. The license file defines the total authorized capability of the ECO6910. If no valid
license file is available on the ECO6910, the ECO6910 provides only the basic functions and
default resources.
NOTE
The ECO6910 reports ALM-20739 No License when no valid license file is available.
The ECO6910 license file is downloaded to the OMU directly or by using the U2000. The
license file takes effect once activated.
The operator must apply for a license file if any of the following conditions applies:
5 Engineering Guidelines
5.1.1 Prerequisites
l A valid ECO6910 license file has been obtained.
l The ECO6910 is working properly.
l The LMT is running and is properly connected to the OMU.
l The external IP address of the OMU and the FTP user name and password have been
obtained.
5.1.2 Procedure
Step 1 Run the LST ESN command to query the ECO6910 ESN.
Step 2 Verify that the length of the license file name does not exceed 31 bytes.
NOTE
The license file name must be unique. The recommended format of a license file name is "site
name_YYYYMMDD.dat", for example, Eco1_20070201.dat.
Step 3 Download the ECO6910 license file to the OMU by running the DLD LICENSE command.
Step 5 Run the CHK DATA2LIC command to check whether the ECO6910 data is consistent with
the specified license file.
Step 6 Run the ACT LICENSE command to activate the specified license file.
NOTICE
l The ECO6910 does not check configuration data when activating a license file. A feature
takes effect only when the feature and its license have been activated.
l When a new license file is being activated in a multi-operator scenario, the values
allocated to the secondary operators are the same as the original allocated values, and the
remaining licensed value is allocated to the primary operator. If the licensed value in a new
license file is less than the sum of the original values allocated to the secondary operators,
run the SET LICENSE command to adjust the values allocated to the secondary operators
before activating the new license file so that the sum of the allocated values is less than the
licensed value in the new license file. Otherwise, activating the new license file fails.
Step 7 Run the CMP LICENSE command to check whether the license running on the host is the
same as that running on the OMU.
----End

None
l License
None
5.2.2 Activation
Run the ECO6910 MML command SET LICENSECTRL with Grace Protection Period
Switch to ON(ON).
Step 1 Run the MML command DSP LICUSAGE to view the usage of resource items.
Expected result: The usage of all the resource items reaches the upper limit.
Step 2 Run the MML command LST LICENSECTRL to query the state of the emergency switch.
Expected result: Values of Remaining Emergency Switch Times and Remaining
Emergency State Days are displayed and Emergency Switch is ON.
----End
5.2.4 Deactivation
Run the ECO6910 MML command SET LICENSECTRL with Grace Protection Period
Switch to OFF(OFF).

NOTE
After the emergency switch is turned on, the ECO6910 reports EVT-22812 Operation of Maximum
License Capacity every day. This event indicates that the ECO6910 are running with the maximum
capacity.
