INTRODUCTION
Children spend a major part of their lives in schools, during their vital development years.
During this time of crucial and essential growth, children tend to learn, hold on to values, and
develop habits/behavioral patterns which will be carried throughout their lives. Thus, schools
must provide children with a space for creative and design thinking from an early age, it
should be an origin of inspiration, and a beginning for developing a sense of responsibility
and awareness. The pathway to the goal begins with teaching students and helping them to
explore their abilities in a healthy and sustainable environment.
If we were equipped with design thinking and values of sustainability, sustainable principles
earlier, during our schooling, the global crisis faced now, the alarming rate in which the
resources are depleting could have been a different situation. Today, with the rise in the
levels of global warming, carbon dioxide emissions, there is a need to improve the energy
efficiency of buildings. A shift in the way of living from what we practice today to more
green and sustainable living is an effective strategy for improving the quality of living.
Building green should not be a choice, it should be a commitment for future generations.
Building green should not be restriction just for residences it should be the standard for all
construction.
This thesis focuses on developing a self -sustaining, zero – energy consuming, eco -friendly
school and an activity center for children which will not only focus on educating the children
with sustainable practices but also provide them with range of activities which schools
usually don’t provide. It not only helps them to start practicing sustainably from childhood, it
also helps them to grow with a different way of living, with minimal damage to the
environment and resources, which is the need of the hour.

AIM
The aim of this project is to construct a Green School and activity center which will not only
take into consideration of how green the building is but also enhance the quality of the
children’s lives, thus enabling them to study in a healthy and sustainable environment, with
improved economic, environmental and social conditions. It will be designed, built, operated,
or reused in a resource efficient and ecological manner. The aim of the project is not only to
find strategies that help in reducing the resources used in the design but also to redefine the
meaning of a “good Eco School” and therefore a “ good future generation”.

OBJECTIVES
This design will meet a certain number of principles: The Institution being resource and
energy efficient; reduction of CO2 emissions; preventing pollution; mitigating noise;
improved indoor air quality; harmonization with the environment. A zero – energy, a self-
sustaining school which will be comparatively inexpensive to build, last for a good number
of years with modest maintenance but reinstate absolutely to earth when desolated or
abandoned.

METHODOLOGY
The methodology of this project is based on literature reviews accompanying with an
experimental study by collecting data from books, articles, and scientific journals related to
the aim of the study to get a higher perspective and a clear view of the concept of self-
sustaining & eco-friendly school which consumes very less or no energy.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION

The scope of the project is limited to creating the master plan and addressing the interior
design and other elements of the project; however, it does not include the civil part of the
project. Although designing the school and providing a basic structure, it does not address the
detailed schedule of the school.
