V. Lateral Stability
6.4.4 Lateral stability (BS 5975: 1996)
6.4.4.1 General
To ensure the lateral stability of falsework structures, including beam grillages, they should be
designed to be able to resist at each phase of construction the applied vertical loads and the greater of
either:
a) horizontal forces equivalent to 2.5 % of the applied vertical loads considered as acting at the
points of contact between the vertical loads and the supporting falsework; or
b) the horizontal forces that can result from wind, erection tolerances, non-verticality, concrete
pressures, water and waves as described in 6.3.1.3, dynamic and impact forces as described in 6.3.1.4
and the forces generated by the permanent works as described in 6.3.1.5.
A. From dead load:
F = 1.23(0.85)(1.2)(1.50) = 1.88 kN
* Bracing tubes to transfer total force of 1.88 kN
* Swivel coupler capacity 5.0 kN
* No of required couplers = 1.88/5.0 = 0.38 ≈ 1 coupler <= 1.0 actual tubes no. in the bay.

GENERAL:
Using Steel Soldier System a Steel Grade ASTM A36 specification / 3.20mm. thick plate minimum yield
stress of 248.2 Mpa. The premise of this design is to design a wall formwork to ensure & determine the
capacity of all elements are safe and most economical for intended dead loads & live load.
The system has major components the steel soldier, aluminum beams, ( Tie System ) which includes
tie rods, waler plates, wing nuts,etc & the horizontal butting.
See all Soldier System Accessories - Brochure Ref.: Guide For Shoring & Formworks.
