Local theatre brings The Wedding Singer to the stage

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Community Players Theatre’s production of The Wedding Singer
featuring local talent will open to the public March 8 at 7:30 p.m. The Wedding Singer is a
musical comedy based off the 1998 movie starring Adam Sandler.

The musical follows wannabe rock star Robbie Hart who was left at the altar on his wedding day.
His goal as a wedding singer is to make every client’s wedding day as miserable as his. After
falling for a waitress named Julia, he must find a way to win her over.

“I’m beyond excited to get to play the part of Robbie Hart. I’ve always been a big fan of the
movie and I just had to audition when I heard that Community Players was putting it on,” said
lead actor Samuel James Willis.

Director Brett Cottone said, “The Wedding singer is a wonderful show and I think it’s sure to be
a hit for all ages. It’s been a pleasure to direct.” The Wedding Singer will run March 8-10, 15-17
and 22-24. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees begin at
2:30 p.m.

Further details about the performances and purchasing tickets can be found at
www.communityplayerstheatre.org or by calling the box office at (309) 663-2121.

Handicapped seating and parking is available at the theatre. No parking is allowed on the south
side of Robinhood Ln. The theatre asks that patrons arrive to be seated before the start of the
show.

About Community Players Theatre

Community Players Theatre was founded by a local women’s group and put on its first
show 1923. Since then, they have featured shows directly off Broadway and premiered shows
that would go on to Broadway. The theatre is currently in the middle of its 96th season and is one
of the oldest community theatres completely staffed by volunteers. Being an amateur theatre
group, all are welcome and encouraged to be a part of a Community Players Theater production
either onstage, backstage or in the audience.
