Course Title: Human Resource Management Topic: Selection Process
Professor: Dr. Linda Simon Date: August 31, 2019

The selection process involves putting the right applicant to the right job. It is a process that
ensures that a job is filled by the most fitting applicant. It is not only about selecting applicants
but also it is about matching the organization’s requirements with the skills and qualifications of
the individuals.

Recruitment and selection are somehow closely related. However, there are differences among
these two. Recruitment identifies and makes a potential candidate to apply for the job. This has a
more positive sense in the perspective of the applicant. On the other hand, selection is choosing
the right candidate for the position which makes it carry a negative sense since the ones who will
not be chosen may feel degraded for not being “qualified” for the position. Nevertheless,
selection is important in an organization—that is—employees with the right skills will do a
better job for the company or organization; it is cheaper means of filling a vacant position than
the more costly way, recruitment; and there will not be an absence of personnel problems.

The selection process has seven procedures that needs to be followed: (1) initial sourcing
interview, (2) completing the application form, (3) employment test, (4) comprehensive
interview, (5) background investigation and reference check, (6) medical/ physical examination,
and (7) job offer. Each stage should be completed to because every stage is necessary in
identifying who will be chosen to fill in the vacant position.
