LOGO WITH A TWIST
One of the most remarkable discoveries in
mathematics is known as the Golden Ratio. Since its
finding, it has been seen a number of times in
mathematics, nature, art, and architecture. The golden
rectangle has been discovered and used since ancient
times. Our human eye perceives the golden rectangle as a
beautiful geometric form. In this performance task, I
decided to make a logo that incorporates the Golden Ratio
because it will make my logo become a perfectly beautiful
piece with harmonious that gives the audience an amazed
look.
Process of making
the logo
1. Create the golden ratio grid. (Left part)

a. Select the rectangle tool, left click on your workspace and

create a rectangle that is 10 pt x 10 pt.
b. Use the zoom tool to zoom in close. Click the square and
press Ctrl + Y to activate outline mode for much convenience,
it gives you no fills or stroke.
c. Select the ellipse tool and create an ellipse that is 10 pt x 10
pt, which gives you a circle.
d. Drag the circle to the square so that they snap in place.
Make sure to turn on your Smart Guide, you can find it in the
View section.
e. Select or drag over them, click Object>Group, so they move
around in one shape.
f. Click and drag it below while holding shift and alt key to
create a copy of it.
g. Do the same thing with the top one to the left and drag it
down while holding shift to maintain its shape and
proportion, make sure the third square is the same size
combining the two small square that you created.
h. Drag over everything and hold the shift key and rotate it.
i. Repeat steps g and h until you have created the golden ratio
grid.

2. Ungroup the golden ratio grid that you created. Select all the
circles and click Edit>Copy and Edit>Paste in Place. Hold shift and
click right key to isolate the circles. Drag over them and click Align
Panel, select Horizontal Align Center and Vertical Align Center.
(Right part)

3. Create the logo that you want by using the Circles from Step 2.
You cannot adjust or resize the circle from its original proportion.
Place the right size of circles to create the design that you want.
4. You can now see your design from here and what you’re going
to do is to select the Eyedropper tool, choose a color, select Live
Paint Bucket. Drag over your design and select the portion or the
whole body of your logo.

5. Drag over it and Select No fill to hide the excess lines. Click
Object>Expand>Okay. Select Unite found at the Shape Modes.

6. Using the Eyedropper tool, select the color that you want for
your logo.
Application of Golden Ratio
In my logo, I used Golden ratio to achieve a
perfect design that I want. Golden ratio helped me
sketched out the right proportions and shapes of
my logo. By just using the circles from the golden
ratio grid that I make, it resulted to a proportion
that is harmonious and gives the audience an
amazed look because of the perfection of the
design. Golden Ratio make things as beautiful,
harmonious, and bordering perfection, even when
we are unaware of it.
The Introduction that I made as seen on the
second page below the logo; I have implemented
Golden ratio within the typographical graphic
design elements. I chose to use 35 px font size for
my body text. Relating this to Golden Ratio, I
multiplied 35 by 1.618 to obtain the best size for
my heading, I get an answer of 56.63. Thus, a
header text size of 56 px or 57 px would follow the
Golden Ratio to balance the 35 px body font size. I
used 57 px for my heading. When creating any
design that uses text, always consider messaging
hierarchy in your layout. Whether it’s a poster, a
wedding invitation or a website layout, you can use
the Golden Ratio to guide your typography sizes.
Reflection
Doing this performance task helped me to
have enough courage to try and explore new
things because I personally don’t have any idea
on how Adobe Illustrator work, I don’t know how
to use the tools or even the basics in the Adobe. With
that being said, I trusted myself that I can finish my
logo with bare knowledge of what I am going to do.

While I am doing or making my logo, I encounter a

difficulty in terms of the tools that I need to use to fix
some mess because some of the circle’s color
disappear and I don’t know how to bring it back to its
original color for it to be seen. I didn’t give up and
continue to explore the app. I really enjoyed the last
part of making the logo, it is when I used the Live
Paint Bucket to reveal my logo. It is important to enjoy
what you’re doing because it helps you to accomplish
your work faster and makes it easier to do.

I finished my work with a big smile on my face. I

know that I put a lot of effort in making the logo and
what I learned is to appreciate my work even if it’s
just simple or too basic for the others. I am contented
with the outcome and hoping to learn more things
with the help of our teacher and this subject,
