Upon reading the article entitled “Man and Historical Action” by Ramon C.

Reyes, I
came to know that I am a product of different cross-points be it physically,
interpersonally, socially, historically, and existentially. This perception helped me
contemplate about the reality of the world in past, present and future.

Firstly, in science field, it is stated that the energy of an organism remains constant
—it is said to be conserved over time. Energy can be created nor destroyed, rather, it
transforms from one to another. It means our brain, nervous system and everything in
our body begun to the beginning of our universe. I can say I was already back in times
and evolve up to this present time. It took hundreds, thousands, millions and billions of
years for my physical body to evolve. Here comes my consciousness. I have the ability
to unveil things. I, as a human, came from a singularity and little by little evolve and
cope up with the changes of life. I am also a source of creativity. Since I have my
consciousness with this body that I learn a certain type of work, which is part of what I
do in school that helps me to achieve my future goal or future career. This work will
serve as my guide to know what are my abilities and skills.

Secondly, man as interpersonal cross-point. Do I have the same personalities the

same with my parents have? This is the question that probably answers how my
personality right now determined by the relationship I had and still has with my mother
and father. The totalities of my identities do not depend on me. It is defined by the
relationship I have and always has with my mother, father, siblings, peers and the
people around me. My family is the first and most effective force. It's a mixture of what
my father had, a personality that my father had because of a family he had, and the
same thing with my mother. As I grow up ,I have grown and discovered personalities
identical to my own father and mother. Consciousness is something that one will inherit
at birth. The moment I become self-conscious, I also become aware of the responsibility
placed upon me by the society in which I was born.

Thirdly, Reyes also talked about the third level which is social cross point. It is
believed that to be social cross-point is like maintaining the cultures of my ancestors. It
is one of the ways to make sure that this kind of habit is one of a kind and unique, just
as I can show that I am Filipino by following the rules of our society. Accepting and
applying the culture and principle of my own country could determine how aware I am in
my social line of events. In the future, I will pass it on to my offspring the same way my
parents did to me. Through doing so, we will maintain our social patterns and
progressively develop them on the basis of changes in our culture. What if I am not born
in this present time and lived way back when the Spanish, American or Japanese
invaded us? What if I am not a Filipino? What if I do not practice Filipino ways? A lot of
questions need to be answered but one thing is for sure I am already here, existing and
practicing the ways we used to be.

Fourthly, this level is almost the same as the social cross-point, but the only
distinction is that the historical distinction will be adaptive, temporal and changeable.
What I have stated above, as a cross-point, has emerged in a period of time beyond my
control. In other words, if history had been different, I would have been different from
what I am. I thought of myself as a historic cross point, because I came after other
beings that I got a lot. However, as a conscious historical cross-point, I have to make
sure that the changes that might happen in the future are for the better like who’s to
blame if my group mates and I failed our project or if I failed to pass my exam because I
did not study well, and that’s me. With that kind of situations that occurred and may
occur in the future, I, learning from my past experiences and as a conscious historical
cross-point, know what to do in order prevent this from happening again and that would
be to focus more on my studies and be persistent in reviewing.

Most of the time, when they ask us what our purpose in life is, we tend to pause for a
while and think about the answer. Some have to say that their purpose in life is to repay
the hard work of their parents, and on the other hand, some have to say that they have
none.

Finally, I am down to one last level of cross-point which is existential. It is known as

the meaning of my personal life. It stressed the existence and option of the person in
life. I, we, search for our own purpose in life and strive to make good choices despite
the presence of a world full of ignorance. I conclude that man is the center and the
product of the intersection where two different lines cross and meet based on the
different experiences in the five cross-sections: physical, interpersonal, social, historical
and existential. You and I have both; in one way, characterized what we may call
destiny and fate. Each one of us is destined to be better or worse. It was the five cross
point that got you and me there. I, we must endure it. Life is short, and one purpose to
live is to have a meaningful life. And to live a meaningful life is not defined by luxuries,
popularity or being perfect but it’s about being real, humble and being able to help
others. Additionally, I, we must never blame our parents about our status, physical
appearance, and personality right now. We are conscious beings and we could always
make a difference. We should do something about it. We will lead the future and make it
a new one.
