COURSE DESCRIPTION
Business and Technology is a course designed to assist students in developing technological proficiencies in
word processing, database management, spreadsheet, presentation, communications, Internet use, ethics, career
research, and E-mail. This course is the second level to the Business, Management and Administration
pathway. Students are also offered opportunities to identify ethical issues pertaining to information systems and
to gather information about careers in technology. Communications and critical thinking skills are reinforced
through the use of software applications. Simulations and projects promoting teamwork and leadership skills
offer further opportunities for application of knowledge and skills.

Students completing the Business, Management and Administration pathway will take the End of Pathway
Assessment (EOPA). The EOPA is administered through the Microsoft Office Specialist PowerPoint Exam.

Career Opportunities: Human Resources, Accounting, Financial Manager

FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA (FBLA)


FBLA is a co-curricular student organization that plays an integral part in the components of the Business &
Technology course standards. FBLA activities are incorporated throughout this course and the rest of the
Business and Computer Science courses. Students are strongly urged to join FBLA to benefit from the wealth
of opportunities the organization has to offer.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN:


Discipline Procedure
Step 1 – 1st Offense Warning from teacher/Student Conference
Step 2 – 2nd Offense Student/Teacher Conference (writing assignment given by teacher)
Step 3 – 3rd Offense Parent Conference (telephone, in-person, or email); referral to advisor
Step 4- 4th Offense Teacher Detention
Step 5- 5th Offense Teacher Detention
Step 6 – 6th Offense Discipline referral to the office

*Major offenses will be referred to the appropriate administrator immediately.


*Computer tampering is an automatic referral! Don’t do it

METHODS OF INSTRUCTIONAL LEARNING:


The instructor will utilize the following methods for meeting learning objectives for the units of the course.
1. Class lecture/discussion/demonstration
2. Question/answer
3. Guest Speakers
4. Student projects/reports
5. Group work
6. Audio-visual aids

GRADING:
GRADING:
All grades will be out of 100 points. Summative (55%), Formative (30%) and Professionalism (15%).
A: 90-100
B: 80-89
C: 70-79
F: 0-69 (Will not earn course credit)

MAKE-UP WORK:
Students are given 3 days after an absence to complete all assignments. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ASKING
THE TEACHER FOR MAKE-UP WORK AND MAKING UP MISSED WORK WITHIN 3 DAYS.

TARDY POLICY:
Students are expected to be in their assigned seat when the tardy bell rings. Students who are tardy will be
marked on disciplinary tracker.

CLASSROOM RULES
1. Be on time (in your seat when the tardy bell rings).
2. Bring your own supplies to class every day.
3. Maintain a positive, respectful attitude with the teacher and fellow students.
4. Dress appropriately according to school guidelines.
5. Be respectful of the textbooks, desks, equipment, and other people’s belongings.
6. Report any computer problems to the teacher immediately.
7. Abide by the computer lab rules.
8. Stay in your seat and do not disturb others.
9. Refrain from talking and primping in the classroom.
10. Profanity will not be tolerated.
11. Cell phones and other electronic devices are not allowed out in the classroom.
12. Leave your work area clean every day. Your chair should be under the desk and no trash/paper left in
or around your work area.
13. Listen to all directions.

This syllabus may be updated as needed throughout the semester.
