Class Topic: Introduction to referencing style

A. What is citation?
Citation is the reference and acknowledgement of the ideas and information that
are extracted from the particular sources,which are used in academic writing.

a. Sources
Books, Journals, Newspaper, Magazines, E-books, Online-Journals,
Online-Magazines and Online-Newspaper.

B. Importance of Plagiarism
To acknowledge the author from where the original information or ideas are
generated

To show the readers the extend of research is done to write the academic paper

To let the reader get hold of original source

C. Global conversation
a) When we write an academic writing we seek information from various
sources which are written by different authors. When we agree to
someone’s ideas and use it in our academic paper, it is an indirection
conversation with the author.
b) If a research paper has a gap between the research and the finding the gap
would be the idea to develop a new research paper. In the process of
disagreeing someone’s idea, we develop another research paper which is a
form of conversation.
In a way all the scholars in the globe are exchanging information and ideas
in the form of academic writing such as thesis, seminar paper, research
paper, synopsis and desertion

D. Types referencing styles


a. There are various referencing styles, some of themare as followed:
I. American psychology Association(APA)
II. Harvard referencing style
III. Modern Language Association
IV. Chisago referencing style
