Philosophy Statement

As a teacher, my goal is to be patient, kind, encouraging, and

creative. I want to be a friend to students, yet still a respectable
figure. My goal is to be someone trustworthy. I want to be
approachable. I want to be passionate about the things I teach
and spark curiosity within the students. My primary goal as a
teacher is to push my students to learn. I plan to help them in
learning, not memorizing information. There’s a huge difference
between the two. When students learn, they understand
information and may use it on other occasions.
I plan to form a mutual relationship with my students. A
relationship between student and teacher should have trust and
respect. I believe that if a teacher sees a student as an equal, and
listens and responds to a student’s input, the relationship would
work. When a teacher does not take a student’s input and just
dictates, it makes students inferior which may lead to a student
feeling unimportant and uncomfortable.
My classroom will be a comfortable and safe space for students. I
want them to be able to know that they can confide in me or any
of the staff in the school about their problems. From experience, I
know that turning to someone for help is a vulnerable thing and
that having someone to trust is important.
Thanks to the teachers I’ve had throughout my years in school,
I’m inspired to “pass it forward.” I’m inspired to be that helping
hand in another person’s life, inside and outside the classroom.

Fourth Grade Teacher’s Position
Dear Mr. Smith,
Thank you for considering me for the position of a fourth-grade
educator. I believe that I am well-suited for this position due to my
qualifications and varied skill-set. In addition, I’m familiar with the
Yorktown community and Yorktown Community Schools as I have had
experience as a high school cadet. I have made significant
contributions as a citizen of the community, and I’d be honored to
continue as an educator and guide the future of Yorktown.
I believe that I have traits that are fitting as a teacher: I am empathetic
and am a good listener. I can easily handle tough situations and solve
problems accordingly. Through my experience in babysitting, I have
honed my ability to understand children and become more patient.
With a background in various forms of multimedia and technology, I
am skilled in videography and photography as well as a novice in
computer science. Please refer to my resumé for more background
information. I appreciate the time taken to interview me for this
position.

Sincerely,
Lynn Nguyen

Skills
I’ve taken many specialized classes as a student. I’ve taken
CAD, known as Computer Aided Design. In this class, I’ve
practiced 3D printing objects and learning the use of 3D
printing around the world (such as medical uses). In addition,
I’ve taken Multimedia, a class in which I learned technological
skills such as typing, videography, putting audio together,
creating newspapers, etc. Furthermore, this year, I am
enrolled in our Computer Science class, where I learn the
basics of computing as well as how to code. Finally, I have
taken multiple art classes and was part of my school’s “Mural
Club.” Below is a picture of the mural we painted in St.
Elizabeth Hospital.

Career Pathway Experiences

During the summer of 2016, I went to a conference named

JrNYLC, which stands for Junior National Youth
Leadership Conference. There, we learned some
American history. We also strengthened our
characteristics of teamwork, communication, problem
solving, and innovation. As a small group, we went
through a simulation as government officials. We practiced
voting and went through the process of deciding to pass a
bill.

During my sophomore and senior year, I was elected Key

Club secretary. As secretary, I had the duties of writing
down ideas during meetings, handling attendance, holding
meetings, and sometimes transporting students to events.

Work Samples

I often create posters as a helpful hint for students in their

essay writing. Below is an example of one of the posters
that I have created.

Services Provided
I’ve had the pleasure of assisting Mrs.Reffett, my supervising
teacher in multiple things. I’ve briefly helped supervise lunch and
indoor recess. In cases that there was a substitute teacher (or
when my teacher had to leave early,) I would pick the students up
from their current “rotation,” (because the fourth graders switch
classes for subjects) have them prepare their books for the next
class, grab their lunches, and walk them to the cafeteria.
Subsequently, I have supervised indoor recess. During that time, I
have helped students out with homework that they need to catch
up on or participate in fun activities with them.
In addition, I assisted in caring for various teachers’ children while
they held parent teacher conferences. We colored with the
students, made healthy snacks, and played games in the gym
such as “Sharks and Meadows” and Duck, Duck, Goose.
Furthermore, during (the high school’s) finals week, I’ll be coming
in after my finals (and during the allotted “education professions
final” time) to help out. Additionally, we will be organizing the
class Christmas party on Friday. During the next semester, I will
be assisting my supervising teacher in the “Family STEAM Night
Event.” STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art,
and math. I am excited to help her in preparing for the event as
well as setting up my own booth for the children to participate in.
