The First Thanksgiving

Life was not very easy for the early Pilgrims.
Pilgrims. They faced harsh
weather conditions, a lack of food, and disease
that took many of their lives.

In 1621, however, the Pilgrims had reason

to be thankful
thankful.. They had become friendly with
tribes
one of the Native American tribe s and had
learned how to plant corn and how to fertilize
their fields. After the harvest of this year, the Pilgrims celebrated

The first Thanksgiving meal, though, better for growing crops

was not anything like the Thanksgiving feasts of

today. The foods and special treats that your
family enjoys every November were not
available for the Pilgrims and Native

Americans. Instead of turkey, stu ffing, and
pumpkin pie, the Pilgrims more likely feasted
on fish and some types of meat and corn. And
guess what? Their celebration lasted for three
whole days! Can you imagine eating and
celebrating for three days?

As the years have passed, we have

continued to celebrate this day to give thanks
for the many blessings in our lives. Just as
the Pilgrims were thankful for their
plentiful harvests, we today have much to
be thankful for. What will you be thankful for
this Thanksgiving?
