The structure of the research plan

Write a 5–10 pages long research plan about your thesis topic and upload it in Moodle. Make
also a PowerPoint presentation of your research plan. Send both the text and PP-files by
email to your opponent and to me (toni.ahlqvist@utu.fi).

The research plan should contain following topics:

1. Introduction of the research theme and topic


2. Research questions and/or hypotheses
3. Initial thoughts about theoretical framework
4. Methods of data collection
5. Methods of data analysis
6. Empirical material
7. Possibly a preliminary synopsis of the research
8. Timetable
9. Supervisors
10. References

Presenting the research plan

Each presenter has 15 minutes to present his or her plan. After that, an opponent has some 5
to 10 minutes to comment the presentation. After the opponent has finished, everyone will
participate the discussion (10 minutes).

On the role of the opponent

Opponent will give ca. 5 to 10 minutes of comments. Opponent can basically give comments
on different points: the overall idea, the research plan topics or other relevant points. Please,
remember to keep your criticism constructive and give also positive feedback. Opponent
writes some 1 page summary of the comments and uploads it to Moodle.
