Guidelines for Project Topics for Legal English

 Context of the case: The following text (Print / Visual / Audio-Visual) given to you
is contended (as imagined) in a court of law. The case is made to ban fully or censure
certain sections of the text. In reality, the given text has been officially / unofficially
banned or censured for certain duration or permanently in India. While the case of
unofficial ban has to be treated as politico-religious sanction, with the indirect
complicity of the state. Your given role is to represent the text, either as For or
Against – the case.
 Text comprises the list of Print Medium: books, play / drama, short story, poetry,
prose; Visual Medium: Paintings; Audio-Visual Medium: Movies (full length),
documentary, drama (on-stage), songs, Television series, etc. banned or censored in
India or abroad.
 Each topic will have two students: For and Against. Students should identify their
Opposing Representative (OR) based on common topics.
 Written submission (along with soft copy) of arguments from both sides as per the
deadline; both parties need to exchange their soft copy drafts and will maintain such
an evidence; failure to exchange if proved will amount to reduction of marks.
 Inquisitorial system of hearing. Each representative will be assessed based on the
effectiveness of their arguments.

 Opening by Defendant (Against) & Closing by Prosecution (For). Arguments will be


strictly based on written submissions unless allowed by the faculty. No counter
arguments will be allowed in oral submissions.
 Display of ethical & professional behavior is mandatory, or else will result in
reduction of marks.

 Format of Contents (Written Draft)


o Cover Page (1 page)
o Contents (1 Page)
o Introduction: background of the case (mention the name of OR) (3-4 pages)
o Literature Review (similar case studies or literary text available) (2-3 pages)
o Summary of the Book/Video/Audio-Video (1 page)
o Facts of the case (1-2 pages)
o Relevant statutory provisions (either here or in appendix) (1-2 page)
o Judicial History / Precedents (case citations of previous & leading rulings) (1
page)
o Legal Issue involved (Identifying the issue based on descending order of
importance) (1page)
o Analysis: Arguments For / Against (based on the representative side) (1 pages)
o Counter Arguments (with Rebuttals) (I page)
o Conclusion: Final Submission by the representative (1-2 page)
o Bibliography (1-2 page)
 Submission Guidelines - Content and Format

 1. The Project shall begin with an Introductory chapter and end with a Conclusion
with reasons and Bibliography.

 2. Each Project shall contain a Table of content on the second page reflecting the
entire project.

 3. The Introductory chapter shall include a brief understanding of the topic, the aim of
the projects, the questions being addressed in the research and hypotheses, whereas,
the Conclusion should include the opinion of the student on the said topic while
addressing the sections of the Introductory chapter mentioned herein.

 4. The other chapters will depend on the topic chosen by the student and each chapter
shall have a title about the contents of the chapter along with Chapter numbers which
can be further divided into sections/sub-chapters.

 5. Plagiarism report is to be attached with the final submission and the plagiarism
content cannot be more than 20%. (As per procedure of KPMSOL)

 6. The students can rely on both primary and secondary sources including legislations,
books, journal articles, internet sources, news items, etc and the same has to be
reflected as a part of the footnotes and the Bibliography.

 7. The minimum number of pages shall be 15 pages including the title page.

 8. The font and size for the titles of the chapter shall be Times New Roman 14 and for
the body of the chapters shall be Times New Roman 12.

 9. Footnotes have to be as per the Bluebook 20th Edition format and the font and size
shall be Times New Roman 10.

 10. The spacing for the entire body of the project shall be 1.5 and for the footnotes
shall be 1.0.

 11. Each page should have a page number inserted at the bottom right corner page
including the Cover/front page.

 The above has to be submitted to the concerned faculty on the given deadline.
GUIDELINES FOR PREPARATION OF PROJECT AS TEE COMPONENT

The students of Year I Semester I will be required to prepare a Project for each subject except
for Clinical/Seminar papers in the manner prescribed below:

A. Submission Guidelines - Content and Format

1. The Project shall begin with an Introductory chapter and end with a Conclusion with
reasons and Bibliography.

2. Each Project shall contain a Table of content on the second page reflecting the entire

B. Evaluation Criteria – Timelines and marks


1. The topic for the Project has to be decided by 1st July, 2021, and has to be communicated
to the respective faculties. The topic of the project must be approved by the Faculty
concerned by 3rd July, 2021 and shall be communicated to the students by 4th July, 2021

2. The last date for submission of all projects to the respective faculties along with the
Plagiarism report is 3rd August, 2021 by 11:59 pm.

3. The above stated deadlines should be adhered to strictly and any submission post the
deadline shall not be considered by the faculty under any circumstances.

4. The Plagiarism checking shall be done on the Turnitin software for which the projects have
to be sent to admin team (details will be shared soon) as per the below mentioned schedule:

29th July – 31st July 2021.

5. No multiple checking of the projects for Plagiarism shall be allowed, i.e. post the deadlines
mentioned hereinabove, the students can reduce the plagiarized content (if need be) and
submit to the faculty latest by 3rd August, 2021 by 11:59 pm.

6. The weightage of marks for evaluation out of 50 shall be as follows:
