My name is Michael Bacon and I am seeking a position as a Special Education teacher to continue my growth
as an educator. My most recent employment was as the behavior BASE Special Education teacher at Burley
Middle School. I managed a caseload of 9 students with a unique set of strengths and needs. Utilizing a
framework based on Glasser’s Choice Theory and Reality Therapy, I worked with these students to help them
become more reflective on their school experiences and on whether their choices were helping them become
the people that they want to be.

Prior to this position, I graduated with a master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Virginia. I
also have three years of experience as an instructional assistant working with students with disabilities in
public schools as well as work with similar populations in summer recreational programs. I am confident that
my educational experiences in combination with a variety of skills and lessons obtained from my previous
employment in education aligns well with your desired qualifications for this position. In particular, I excel at:

• Providing systematic, explicit instruction to help students meet their academic and personal goals
• Meeting the educational and behavioral needs of students through developing strong relationships
with each student and their families
• Utilizing a collaborative approach with teachers, administrators, specialists and families to inform
educational plans
• Collecting meaningful data to monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed

Over the last five years working with children, I have developed an intense passion for the important work
that educators have in the community; fostering growth through individual guidance and direction has been
