Budget Narrative

Most of my expenditures, which are illustrated in Table 1, for this project involved

gathering materials that I believed would help stir creativity in students. Likewise, I wanted the

materials to be very versatile so that they could be used in multiple ways and not limit the

creativity of my students. This can be seen in the more art-centered supplies I bought such as the

colored pencils, markers, and crayons. I also decided to include poster board paper and

construction paper so that students would have a variety of mediums to choose from when

creating their final project. I could see the poster board paper having double uses in group

activities such as creating mind maps. I do think in the future if I start to notice trends in creative

materials I have not purchased (I can make a survey asking students what materials would be

helpful for the project), I can adjust and attempt to ask for those materials through donations.

The essentials for this project was first the Lenovo Chromebook tablets. I wanted a

two-in-one computer as opposed to a laptop because of its multiple uses. Students can use them

for basic needs such as writing documents, gathering research, and accessing PowerPoints, etc.

However, the tablet also has many creative attributes. For their final project, students can use the

tablet as a camera, a video camera, and can create/draw digital art. Furthermore, this project

would need a projector. I plan to use PowerPoints/Pear Deck, etc. when teaching lessons as well

as showing students short films and written excerpts. In order to do that effectively, I think a

hanging projector would be a vital purchase. The final essentials for this project are the two

graphic novels. I decided to buy only half sets because I do not plan for each student to have

their own copy. I think students can share copies in pairs/groups. Additionally, we will only be

reading a brief section of the graphic novel for this project and students will get to choose which

novel they want to read. I did buy enough copies in the instance that all students choose either
one novel or other. However, when I envision this project, I imagine there will be variation in

student choice.

The last purchases for my project are basics that I think will benefit the classroom in

general. For instance, I added pencils, pens, lined paper, folders, and notebooks. I did not buy

these materials in full as I plan for them to be more of a backup for students who need these

supplies. I also added snacks and water because I really want my classroom to be prepared even

beyond typical school supplies. I think these snacks and drinks will be extremely useful for

students who need food or maybe even forgot water and need a drink. In the future, I could see

myself expanding the snacks to offer more variation, possibly through a fundraiser or parent

donations.
