State Standard​: Analyze how an author’s choices concerning how to structure a text, order

events within it, and manipulate time create such effects as mystery, tension, or surprise.

Objectives​:

1. Given a certain text​,​ students​ ​will cite three examples o​f the way in which the author uses

the structure of a text to create effects such as mystery, tension or surprise, ​scoring at

least 8 out of 10 points on the rubric​.

2. In a five paragraph essay​, ​students​ ​will explain how the author’s choices concerning the

order of events within a text create effects such as mystery, tension, or surprise,​ and will

score at least 80 out of the 100 points on the rubric.

3. Students ​will create a three to five minute presentation ​examining how the author

achieves one of the effects of the story such as mystery, tension, or surprise, through

manipulating time in a certain text,​ ​being able to answer specific questions when asked in

order to demonstrate understanding of what they presented.
