“Adversity is the mother of progress -Mahatma Gandhi”

BSEM 32: Number Theory and BSEM 35: Problem-Solving, Mathematical Investigations and
Modelling are both concerned with Mathematics. As a future educator of Math, I am expected to possess
skills and knowledge that are sufficient in teaching our future students.

Since we are in a flexible mode of learning where we are studying online and through modular, I am
expecting that BSEM 32 and BSEM 35 is going to be a challenging subject because I think these courses
require a lot of effort in understanding the lessons, in doing the tasks, and also on building a harmonious
relationship with our classmates since we are also expected to do a research paper. I am also looking
forward that these courses will train not just our abilities, but also with our competency in Mathematics. I
also expect that there will be a lot of activities that will train our comprehension because Number Theory, in
my own understanding, discusses the language of Math that is somehow similar to the English grammar.

We have already met our instructor and my first impression with her is that she is going to be a strict
teacher, but it changed when we had our first online meeting yesterday because she is actually an
approachable and a very happy teacher. I am expecting that our class is going to be an engaging and a
dynamic class and I think we will all going to be excited to learn with her. Lastly, keeping in mind that we
are in a “new normal” set up where everything is through online, I assume that this is not going to be easy.
But if we put our heart and mind into it and with the help of our instructors’ modules, guidance and
assessments, I think we can get through with this and together we can achieve this goal. As a student, I
believe that this situation is not to punish or to put us down, this is the perfect opportunity to grow and learn;
this is to train us to adapt to change and become a competent future educator.
