1. Who is your ideal leader? How does your ideal leader influence you?

My ideal leader, minus the controversies and maybe the issues thrown at him, is our current

President, so that’s Rodrigo Duterte, and how did Rodrigo Duterte influence me? So given his

strong background as a prosecutor, since for me it’s not about the experience, you have to have

that knowledge to be a politician, so it’s not about being an artista (artist), its not about being as,

you know, what else, other than a public servant, so you have that, you have to have that strong

knowledge and background as a politician.

So, he led that province, which is Davao, with the people there with the outmost respect

and trust. So, it’s not, I know there are instances or situations in the past wherein he was accused

as a dictator and so on but minus the dictatorship, minus that era to me, he is a very intelligent and

leading this company out of respect

2. What are your qualities and traits that make you a good leader?

My qualities maybe, I was once a follower so I’m a great follower, “parang” for the leaders

before me so my traits siguro (maybe) one of which is I have a clear vision. As a leader you have

to have these goals, apart from the roles and responsibilities that you need to achieve, so you

cannot function without a clear vision. Then I’m a mentor as well to my co-leaders or to my

subordinates and what else, again being back up with knowledge and technical abilities, those

characteristics or skills equip me more in doing this job.

So, what else, you know how that the outmost, most standard, the most basic characteristic

of being a leader is, you have to be being decisive or else how else can you be a leader di ba

(right)? Kailangan mo mag- decide(you have to ) on certain things, so the people around you will

base their decision, based on what, whatever things you will tell them or instructions di ba (right),

kaya nga ikaw ang nandyan, di lahat makakapagdecide (it is why you are ther, not all can make a

decision), so there.

3. As one of the leaders in your company, what do you think can leaders do to help others in the

organization see the future?

For me parang (maybe) its best to share your knowledge and your experiences kasi

(because) you cannot explain it enough if you haven’t experience anything yet as a leader, so

panget man yan maganda man yan(it can ugly, it can be beautiful), its best to share suggestions,

advices to the future leaders as well kung anu yung mga minention ko(what I have mentioned)

before, my traits and characteristics yun din e-share mo din(you should also share), di ba(right),

not to the extent, he will tell what to do, but you know, you set yourself as an example to that

future leader.
FAR EASTERN UNIVERSITY- MANILA
INSTITUTE OF ACCOUNTS, BUSINESS, AND
FINANCE

4. How can leaders create a climate of trust and facilitate relationships among people in a work team?

So you have, it has to begin from the with-, sarili sa sarili (yourself), you have to represent

yourself na(that) your trustworthy, you cannot be a leader, you cannot for me, di ka magiging

lider if ikaw mismo hindi katikatiwala-tiwala(you cannot be a leader if you are not trustworthy), so

set by example then gain confidence and trust, so transparency. You know you have to be

transparent in everything you do, if you provide some sort of rules in a specific company or in a

specific group then you have to lead by example, so pag sinabi na(if your told that) you only have

an hour and half break, susundin mo din yan(you also have to follow that) as a leader and then

kahit anu nangyayari(whatever happens) behind the curtains, yung mga alam mo makalka-affect

sa(what you know can affect the) group of people nay un na hinahawakan mo(that you are

holding), sasabihin mo yun(telling it) in a way na nafifilter mo rin(that is filtered), hindi pwede na
FAR EASTERN UNIVERSITY- MANILA
INSTITUTE OF ACCOUNTS, BUSINESS, AND
FINANCE

basta mo lng sasabihin( you cannot just say it as is), so transparency and gain confidence and

knowledge by building trust and being knowledgably yourself.

5. What do you think is the most difficult challenge that you have encountered so far as a leader? and

6. How were you able to succeed that challenge?

Difficult challenge when siguro(maybe) when you are given specific task, you are given to

finish in a small amount of time, so when I stepped in last no, two years ago, as a leader, I was task

to do a job na di kinaya ng ibang leaders (that other leaders cannot do), so why? Because, so I have

to dig deeper, it’s more of, the number of workload that is being given to the employees, plus we

were short staffed, so the workload alone is a very difficult challenge kasi(because) you have a

client, you have to meet a deadline, you have to adhere to the policies and compliances plus the

fact na wala kang tao(that you have no people) so paano mo yun ma aadress na hindi ka ma-

cocompromis ng revenue ng company (how do you address that without compromising the

revenue of the company) and hindi ma-cocompromis yung well-being ng mga tao ng hawak mo

(not compromise the well-being of the people you are in charge of), kasi syempre mapapagod sila

masyado maraming trabaho (because they also tire out due to many workloads) and anu pa(what

else), so you have to prioritize and sacrifice your time yourself, nandyan yung mag uuwi ka ng

trabaho, may mag oovertime(there is taking work home, overtime) and then maybe, deep dive, dig

deeper to the process, anu ba at saan yung nanggaling yung hirap baka, may process na hindi

kinakailangan, baka may may mga hindi namemeet na compliance parang ganun(what and where

is the origin of the problem, maybe there is a process that is not needed, maybe there were

compliances that were not met, like those).

So the other challenge I think we’re talking about business, so the other challenge is how

paano mo maeexplain sa isang tao na wala na siyang trabaho(how do you explain to a person that
FAR EASTERN UNIVERSITY- MANILA
INSTITUTE OF ACCOUNTS, BUSINESS, AND
FINANCE

they no longer have a job), you know that is difficult kasi lahat tayo kailangan ng trabaho(Because

all of use needs a job), that’s why we’re applying for a job, your trying to earn money, providing

food on the plate, so it’s hard for me na mag sabi sa isa o dalwang tao na(to tell one or two people

that) this is the end of your career in this company, so how do you address that? You address it by

sympa- empathizing sympathy, ganun(like that), so there’s no other way, there are no other way or

strategy to say it kasi(because) one way or another, hindi man ikaw mag sasabi, yung HR(you

might not be the one to say it, but the HR), so yung sabihin mo sa tao na wala na syang trabaho ay

importante na kung paano mo nalng siya sasabihin(how you are going to tell that person that they

no longer have a job is important on how you are able to tell them), so there, two most difficult

challenges I had.
FAR EASTERN UNIVERSITY- MANILA
INSTITUTE OF ACCOUNTS, BUSINESS, AND
FINANCE

7. How would you describe your leadership style?

Oh my leadership style, so I walk the talk, parang ganun(like that), so I’ll explain

everything first then I’ll let you try it sa unang wave(on the first wave), sa unang exercise(on the

first exercise) and then I’ll make it a point that I chat down your weaknesses and strengths or

opportunities then address that, but you have to make certain commitments na hanggang ganitong

time lng kita aalayan(that I’ll only guide you on this specific time), then, we are in a company, di

naman tayo nasa eskwalahan, di tayo na naglalaro(we’re not in school, we’re not playing around),

so you have to produce, if you client tells you, you only have this specific amount of timeline to,

you know to produce yan, then to comply, then kailangan e-set mo yung standards na yon sa

bagong sa mga tao mo ganyan(you have to set specific standards to your new employees), so there.

8. Do you think you are a successful manager/leader? Why do you think so?

If I’m a successful manager? I think so, na I am a successful manager kasi(because)

success doesn’t, you don’t measure it by the awards that you get, so if everyone is as happy as you

then you feel the success parang gauun(it’s like that), so nandun ka sa position na masaya ka kasi

na ang mga tao nakakatrabaho mo nasatisfide sila(you are in that position where you are happy

because the people you work with is satisfied) on your work, that’s how I measure the success, its

not about the awards the amount of money but the fulfillment na you’re doing your job you know

that you’re doing your best in your job because the people around you is happy for you,

measurement of success.
FAR EASTERN UNIVERSITY- MANILA
INSTITUTE OF ACCOUNTS, BUSINESS, AND
FINANCE

9. How do you monitor the performance of your individual team members?

So we have a data generator so from the data generator, there are specific categories so it

depends, do you want to measure the number of meetings or the number of items they were able to

produce in an hour, then you can measure it by, there’s column there that specifies the time when

the specific data was touched or was worked on so every, it depends on the number of leads like, if

you’re in a very tight deadline, it has to be in an hourly basis when, if it not like kunwari(for

example) not right now it’s not we are not in our peak season, so you can just monitor it

siguro(maybe) midday so you monitor pero, but before you do all those things you have to set

expectations to your people na, so ok since were going, we need to achieve a specific number of

meetings that you have to produce by this day kunwari(for example) Monday then, kunwari(for

example) Monday ngayon(today) so and then you were given instruction you have to finish this by

next Monday then, it depends on the number of meetings you have to produce, syempre(obviously)

you have to divide mo yon by the number of people, then by the time kung anu yung, kasi(when,

because) we have measurements here, sa isang program ba na tinatrabaho mo, ilang minutes mo

yan ginagawa? Ilang minutes mo yan kayang taposin(in one program you are working on, how

many minutes do you work it on? How many minutes do you need to finish it), then you’re going

to multiply it by the number of working hours so say you have 10 mins , 30 minutes to finish the

job then you have 60 minutes in a hour so you multiply it, then you come up with the data then

multiply it by the number of days and the number of people, then you tell your team na we have to

meet this if it is hard deadline then you have to do OT (overtime) if you cannot achieve sa within

the basic number of hours a day which is 8 hours minus lunch and break.
FAR EASTERN UNIVERSITY- MANILA
INSTITUTE OF ACCOUNTS, BUSINESS, AND
FINANCE

So you have to be realistic, you cannot just always produce, you have to buy it in like,

hindi yan kaya o kaya kasi (it’s not possible or possible)we cannot, we can never overdeliver and

under promise prang ganun(its like that), na kaya yan pero mamatay yung mga tao (it’s possible

but the people will tire out), so that how we measure it as much as possible, we provide historical

data, then we do it by ourselves, and then in a 50 number of data ilan, gaano ka bilis ang isang tao

taposin lahat yon and dun ka na babase na e-aaverage yon(how much, how fast does one person

finish it all and use it as a basis for average) and then maghanap ka ng 30 minutes na, o kayang

tapusin ng isang meeting(find a meeting that can be finished in 30 minutes) 30 minutes, so you just

have to multiply it and provide the numbers to the to your boss, to your client.

10. What advice can you give to your future leader?

What advice to the future leader? Siguro(maybe) allow yourself to commit mistake kasi

parang (because, its like) if you’re a new leader at nundun ka pa sa(you are in that) height ng I

need to be that impressive kasi bago ako parang kailangan(because I’m new then I must), its either

e-meet ko ang hinahanap nilang(I meet their needed) standards parang ganun syempre kailangan

mo magpaimpress di ba pero(it’s like that, obviously you need to impress right, but) you have to

allow yourself to commit mistake kasi hindi ka matututo( because you cannot learn) and then

kapag nandyan na yung (when there are) deadlines and all those things, you have to contain

yourself and focus, never lose focus kasi doon nastrestress ang isang leader so hanggat hindi mo

nawawala ang focus mo sa sarili mo na may kailangan kang deadline may tao na umaasa sayo na

hindi ka ma-cocompromise ng sarili mong health kasi mastrestress ka talaga dyan (because that is

where a leader can become stressed out, so as long as you don’t lose focus on yourself, if you have
FAR EASTERN UNIVERSITY- MANILA
INSTITUTE OF ACCOUNTS, BUSINESS, AND
FINANCE

deadlines, people depending on you, that it won’t compromise your own health because you will

only stress yourself out), so yon, you have to be focus and allow yourself to make mistakes and

then stick to your objectives, tapos as a leader kase(then as a leader), our outmost goal is to hone a

new leader, so pave forward, so anu natutunan mo e-pasa mo yun sa mga susunod na(what you

have learned you pass it to the next) generations na there.
