Cooling Load Equations:

1) Roof Heat Gain:

˙
Q=UA ¿

CLTD : from table (9-1).

LM : from table (9-2).
K = 1 if dark colour, K=0.5 if light colour.
Ti : is the inside temperature.
To,m : is the outside mean temperature ,Tmax and Tmin from table A7.

T o ,m =0.5(T max +T min )

f =1 if there is no attic or roof fan (such as most buildings in Jordan).

f = 0.75 if there is an attic or roof fan.

2) Walls Heat Gain:

A) Sunlit:
˙
Q=UA ¿

CLTD : from table (9-4).

LM : from table (9-2).
K = 1.0 for dark colour walls.
K = 0.83 for permanent medium colour walls.
K = 0.65 for permanent light colour walls.
Ti : is the inside temperature.
To,m : is the outside mean temperature ,Tmax and Tmin from table A7.

T o ,m =0.5(T max +T min )

B) Convection:
Q conv =UA (T adj −T i)
A: is the area of the wall.
U: is the heat transfer coefficient for wall.
Tadj : is the adjustable temperature, Ti is the inside temperature.
3) Ceiling:
Q conv =UA (T adj −T i)
A: is the area for Ceiling.
U: is the heat transfer coefficient for Ceiling.
Tadj : is the adjustable temperature, Ti is the inside temperature.

4) Floor:

Q conv =UA (T adj −T i)

A: is the area for Floor.
U: is the heat transfer coefficient for Floor.
Tadj : is the adjustable temperature, Ti is the inside temperature.

5) Glass Windows and Doors:

A)Sunlit:
˙
Q tr = A (SHG )( SC)(CLF )

A: is the area of glass.

SHG : is the solar heat gain rate factor, in units of W/m3, from Table (9-7).
SC : is the shading coefficient factor, from Table (9-8) for glass windows or
doors without interior shading, if with interior shading from Table ( 9-9).
CLF : is the cooling load factor from Table (9-10) for glass windows without
interior shading, with interior shading from Table (9-11).

6) Lights:
˙
Q ¿ =P¿ ( F u F b )¿
PLt : is the lamp rated power in units of Watts. P=Lamp Rated × A
Fu : is the fraction of lamps that are in use.
Fb : is the ballast factor that equals to 1.2 for fluorescent lamps and equals to
1.0 for ordinary lamps.
(CLF)Lt is the light cooling load factor from Table (9-15) X fixture and Y free
hanging.

7) Occupants:
˙
