Researchers are conducting Phase 3 clinical trials of several potential COVID-19 vaccines from AstraZeneca, Janssen, Moderna, Novavax, Pfizer, and Sinovac. The Philippine government signed an agreement to purchase 2.6 million doses of AstraZeneca's experimental COVID-19 vaccine, with the first shipment expected to arrive in April or May 2021 to immunize over 1 million Filipinos. COVID-19 Vaccine in the Philippines
Last November 27, the Philippine government signed a supply agreement for 2.6 million doses of AstraZeneca’s coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine. The purchase deal for the experimental vaccine developed by the British pharmaceutical giant with the University of Oxford will support the Philippine government’s plans to immunize against COVID-19. The first supply of the experimental vaccine will help more than 1 million Filipinos since each person needs two doses. The vaccine supply will be fully paid for by private firms, but half of it will be donated to the government to help in the COVID-19 response. It is expected to arrive by the second quarter of 2021 (April or May). The government is still seeking 20 million to 50 million vaccine doses from China's Sinovac and US firm Pfizer among others in its fight against COVID-19.
