 The Profession: At the beginning of this course and in my pre personal philosophy, I talked about

how I did not know much about special education except that it includes special needs students
into public classrooms. i said I wanted a better understanding of children with disabilities and
how to help them succeed in the classroom. I definitely learned so many different methods and
approaches on different teaching styles and good tips for teachers all through this course.
Educational Philosophy: I agree with what I wrote in my pre-personal philosophy. I stated that I
believe special education should be included in public schools. I believe that these students get
a lot of help from being in these classes, some one on one, and others that have
accommodations but can be in the classroom with others. Special education classes focus on the
best way these children learn and provide the information to them, that way they can learn to
their highest ability. There are so many different disabilities and different accommodations to
each one. For example, having students sit closer to the front, etc. I think all children learn
differently and learn at their own pace.
Instruction: I would include a lot a visual aids, sit students with disabilities closer to the front and
as close to the board, be organized, color code, and much more. I also would include everything
I put into my pre- personal philosophy
 The textbook states that “special education is a customized instructional program designed to
meet the unique needs of an individual learner. It may necessitate the use of specialized
materials, equipment, services, and or teaching strategies.” The main role of these teachers is to
provide instruction and support which facilitates the participation of students with disabilities in
the regular classroom. Special education teachers should be responsible for the development,
implementation, and evaluation of students IEP’s; provide the necessary information to the
classroom teacher prior to the child entering the general education classroom regarding the
student’s disability, medical concerns, and equipment operation; collaborate with the general
education teacher in adapting the curriculum, providing appropriate modifications, ensuring the
implementation of modifications, and assessing overall progress of the child; and maintain
contact with the assigned student’s parents or family.
 I believe all students are going to learn differently and that there isn’t just one-way students
with disabilities learn best. I believe the best way is to maintain an organized classroom and
limit distractions; breakdown instructions into smaller manageable tasks; Provide oral
instruction for students with reading disabilities; provide visual aids for students with hearing
disabilities; place students at the front of the classroom; Encourage cooperative learning
activities. I think these special needs students work best when they are included in a normal
classroom.
 Even though I do not plan on specializing in teaching special education, I want to teach younger
kids, around second grade, and will possibly have a student with a disability. My goal is to do
whatever I can to the best of my ability to help that student succeed to their fullest potential. I
will work with both the student and the parent to make sure I can accommodate the child’s
needs and provide them with what they need to succeed.
 I believe that special education teachers should be patient, organized, creative, accepting,
adaptable, even tempered, intuitive, calming nature, and have a true love for children.
 Yes, I do believe all students can learn. Every student learns at their own pace and learns in their
own way. There are many different methods and approaches that teachers can use in the
classroom to reach every student. Teachers must reach visual learners, auditory learners and
kinesthetic learners. Varying methods of teaching will create an interesting and fun environment
and will help all students succeed.
 To create an environment where it's safe to take risks and fail, to be a role model, to use
emotion to reach students, to use as many assessment forms as necessary to uncover
understanding, to help students believe that they can do what they don't think they can, and to
remove barriers to learning.
