Building Process

Step 1: Bench Base Assembly

Start by attaching an A board to a B
board. Apply glue between the two
boards. Align the A and B boards flush

on one end. Use two 2.5” screws to
attach both boards together. (Picture 1)

Attach another A board to the other

side of the B board with wood glue and
screws. (Picture 2)

Continue the A,B, A pattern till you

have the complete base. (Picture 4)
Repeat steps so you have two identical
bases.

Step 2: Attaching Outside Rails

Attach one C board to the outside of the A
boards on the two bench bases. Apply glue
between the C board and each bench base.
Align the C board flush with the outside
edge of the bench bases. (See Picture) Use
three 2.5” screws to attach C board to each
base.

Repeat steps above on the opposite side of the

bench bases. (See Picture to the right.)

Step 3: Attach Inside Rails

Attach four more C boards to inside of
each remaining slot. Apply a liberal
amount of glue to each joint. Apply glue
to all three sides of the base that makes
contact with each C board.

When inserting each C board into each

slot, it will be tight and you may need to
hammer the board into place. Use scrap
wood to protect the C boards from the
hammer. See the video by Mullen
Woodworks for more detail.

Make sure all C boards are flush with

the outside of base.

Optional
If arm rails and back is not wanted, you
can stop here. Sand the bench and
focus on the joint areas to remove any
squeeze out from glue.

Wipe area down to remove any dust.

Apply exterior oil stain/finish or
exterior paint.

Step 4 - Attach Outside

Arm Supports
Attach D board to the outside of every
base. Use wood glue between each the
D board and the base. Use 6 2.5 screws
to attach the D board to the base. Make
sure the D board is flush with the base.

When attaching the D board to the base,

we suggest using wood buttons or wood
plugs to hide the screws. Watch the video
on our Youtube for more info on this
process.

Step 5 - Attaching Arm Rails

Attach the F boards to the top of the D
boards. Use wood glue between both the
D and F boards. Use two 2.5” screws into
each D board. (See picture to the right.)

Repeat process for each F board.

Step 6 - Attach Back Support

Attach the last C board to the back of the
F boards. Attach the C board to the F
boards where the F boards are hanging
over the base. (See picture to the right)

Use wood glue between both the C board

and F boards. Make the C board is flush
with back and sides of F boards. Use two
2.5” screws into each F board.

Step 7 - Attach Back Rails

Attach the E boards to the top back support
and the base. Measure between the two D
boards. The measurement should be 46” on
the back C board. Mark every 5.75”. You
should end up with 7 evenly spaced
marks. Do the same process to the top C
support.

Once you have your marks, align each E

support to each mark. (See Youtube video
for clarification.) Apply wood between base
and F boards. Use one screw on top support
and two screws on bottom of base through
each F board. (See picture to the right.)

Repeat process for all 7 F boards.

Step 8 - Sanding
Now that the entire bench is constructed,
time to sand the piece. Go through and
sand the bench starting with 120. Then
repeat the sanding process with 220 sand
paper.

Focus on joint areas and make sure all

dried glue is removed.

Step 9 - Apply Finish

Now that the entire bench is sanded, apply
exterior finish to entire piece. Follow
directions on the finish selected. Whether it
is paint or oil finish, apply to entire bench
and let it cure for proper time.
