In this assignment we were given the plans of a business to advertise their new product.
We were given information as to what the company wanted like at least 60 total ads, how much
each radio and television ads cost, how many viewers each ad would reach, and the total budget.
Using graphing systems of inequalities, we were able to figure out how many of each type of
advertisements needed to be purchased to reach the maximum number of people exposed to the
ad. This project really showed how math can be used in the real world to solve problems. These
results are important because it shows just how much information you can get just by a couple of
key words. It is clear to see how often inequality problems are used in day to day life.
This analysis would be helpful give to the marketing team so that they can make sure
they are using the company money effectively by reaching the maximum amount of people and
staying in budget. Another type of situation in which linear programming could be used is
maximizing the numbers of items such as phones that are manufactured. It can also be used to
figure of the least amount of money the production of the phones would cost. If I was the owner
of a company and was given this information it would be crucial that the manager who brought
me this information could clearly explain where they got their numbers. It is very easy to make a
mistake when working with so many mathematical equations, and I would want to make sure
that the money I am spending to market my new product is being seen by the maximum amount
This assignment really did change my opinion on the usefulness of math. I am the type of
learner that is not great at just memorizing facts, I need to understand the how and why. This
project made it easy to see how to pull information from story problems and set up the equations
to get the answer I am looking for. It made me feel smart to be able to use the information given
to me at the beginning of the assignment to ultimately answer these important questions just by
