Mounting Instruction Charging System SC

The short operating manual [Document

Assembly at a towing vehicle Number] should be always placed in the
Electrical connections see circuit diagramm [Document number] drivers cabin (with the operating manual).

The system expects a floating ground

frame. All electrical consumer loads must
have a separate plus and minus wire.

Notice:
To save the electrics in case of connection
with a grounded system it is necessary to
socket SC use fuses at plus and minus for all
connected wires between truck and trailer.
All plus and minus wires of the SC
Charging system have to be connected
with the fuses included in the kit. Damages
because of wrong mounted or missing
standard holder for air and electrical plug connections fuses are not in warranty.

When assembling the charging system, the

trailer feedback has to be fed-in via the
2-pin charging system plug on the VEHH-
interface.

The electronic has to be mounted in such way on the vehicle frame that it is protected and strain-relieved! Use
the cable fastener for fixing the electronic (as shown in the picture). Ensure that the diagnosis-LED is visible!
A cable-bending radius of 75 - 150 mm is required!

Mounting Instruction Charging System SC

Mounting at a truck or tractor:

The charging system socket must be mounted at the end of the towing vehicle. Hereby, the socket is mounted
in one of the socket recesses provided at the end of the frame for this purpose.
If there should not be any recesses available, a matching mounting angle ([Part Number]) can be ordered as an
accessory.
The electronic is positioned in the cable section, one meter from the socket and should be mounted in the
vehicle frame in such a way that it is protected and the diagnosis-LED can be seen when installed. The housing
of the electronic has to be fixed in such way that the incoming and outgoing cables are strain-relieved. It must
be fixed by the two included cable fasteners to existing drill holes on the vehicle frame.

Mounting of additional components such as cut-off relays is not required!

The plus wire (red 16 mm²) of the charging system has to be connected to the positive pole of the vehicles
battery or the energy distribution with a fuse of max. 50 amps. The minus wire (brown 16 mm²) of the charging
system has to be connected to the negative pole of the vehicles battery or the minus connection point. The
fuses are included in the SC-kit.
See the mounting instruction “fuse-kit” – [Document Number].
If the minus-backup fuse (100 amps) of the trucks electronic is blown, it is absolutely necessary to check the
complete electric of the truck and trailer for wrong current and to change the SmartCharge electronic!

The connection to the towing vehicle feedback signal is the responsibility of a correspondingly coded 2-pin plug.
This is directly positioned at the electronic together with approx. 300 mm length of cable.
Operation is allowed only with installed and connected feedback light!
The feedback signal from the trailer and the fault messages from the charging system electronic are output via
this plug-in connection. The cable is connected to the VEHH-interface of the BC on the truck via a Y-cable and
the signal is added-on to its feedback lamp. In case of a tractor, the signal is directly passed on to the feedback
lamp via a 2-wire cable in the driver's cabin.

Mounting at a trailer or semi-trailer:

The plus wires (red and red/white 6 mm²) of the charging system has to be connected to the positive pole of the
vehicles battery with a separable pole fuse. The minus wires (brown and brown/white 6 mm² and brown 1 mm²)
of the charging system has to be connected to the negative pole of the vehicles battery with a separable pole
fuse. These fuses are included in the SC kit.
See the mounting instruction “fuse-kit” – [Document Number].

The connection with the feedback signal of the towing vehicle is provided by the yellow wire (1 mm²), which has
to be connected with the feedback signal for the platform on the trailer.

Caution: Only a minus signal is allowed to be connected here.

It is imperative for the charging that only one of the other two wires (1 mm² blue or brown) is connected to
negative with the fuse (e.g. to the negative pole of the additional battery pack). Which of the two wires has to be
connected depends on the feedback signal type of the tailgate lift of the trailer (blue ≙ negative quiescent
current principle; brown ≙ negative operating current principle).

The voltage of the additional battery pack is even applied to the trailer plug when it has not been
inserted. So the use of a parking socket (included in the tractor and in the trailer kit) to avoid soiling and
short-circuits is necessary.

Corroded plugs or pins are not in warranty!

General:

Attention: the truck / body mounting directives must be kept!

The complete system has to have a cable-length of at least 10 meters.
The fuses at the minus wires are necessary to protect our SC charging system against over currency
because of other bad grounded consumer loads. We recommend to protect all connecting cables
between truck and trailer. All warranty claims because of damaged-grounded wires will be declined.
To be able to handle the daily hard use a plug-in connection, which is typical for vehicles is used. Form and
assignment of the plug socket connection is stipulated in ISO standard 25981. This ensures compatibility
between various manufacturers.

A minimum length of 10 m for the cable in the complete system is required.

The torque for the knurled nut of the fuse is 5 – 8 Nm!

Caution:

The engagement hooks of the knurled nut have to be present and not damaged. There is no correct
function of the fuse and so a danger of burning wires! Damaged parts have to be replaced immediately.

Disconnect all wires at the battery before welding at the frame!

The SmartCarge system is only manufactured to charge an additional battery pack wit up to 300 Ah by
the power of the truck. Any other uses are not in warranty claims.
