The Effects of "Consciousness of Correctness" on Amount, Fluency, and Syntax of


Adolescents' Speech.

This research is based on teaching in English. The study was conducted within three public

schools over 1v ½ weeks. The researcher works in "No Consciousness of Correctness"

treatments and the “Consciousness of Correctness" treatments. And they divided a group. They

asked to describe their future career plans, to discuss their understanding of the concept common

sense, to recount a television show, and to explain and to discuss three series of narrative

cartoons. Interviews were audio recorded and transcribed for scoring.

They did a research 500 students from public schools. Two junior high and one senior high to

give equal groups by sex, grade level. And also two social economic status groups. High group

membership and lower group membership.

The research, experimental topics are mental deficiencies, learning disabilities, emotional or

behavioral problems, or speech pathologies. Socioeconomic status was based on the occupation.

The argument for the progressive approach language and the formal system of teaching the

verbal language begins in the late 1960s and continuing through the 1970s. Natural language for

the children is best and most powerful and it is devastating to try to change the children’s or

student’s natural language to its vitality. Trying to change the child’s natural thinking make them

in different and using ‘correct” of language may impact students' attention. English learners have
been in a desperate attempt to reconcile the supposedly repressive nature of language teaching in

the absence of their teaching. The belief that the school experience will make a positive

difference in students use of language.

Language depends on social class and social context.Many researchers said McCarthy

Strickland and Bern Stein and associates have reported clear differences by social class in oral

syntax and speech development, with the differences middle class children over lower class.

And another researcher Labov said that class differences may be a product of immediate social

context and the valuation interpretations middle class speech, of social and institutional bias.

A speaker always tries to make their students or audiences paying attention in their speech. Many

studies have shown disfluency cab be reduced by direct directing the explicit attention to their

protests.

The main purposes of this study are “Consciousness of Correctness” of speech. They give that

pencil test of English usage featuring items commonly taught in public schools and generally

identified with the acceptability of oral and written English and they were instructed before the

interview session to speak as correctly as they could. Control group take an interview for

students before the interview they collected student’s text book the interview session they try to

discover students' interests, attitudes, and opinions. They also give a speech, social context. They

observe the student behavior.

An analysis of the data and result three way interaction between treatment, sex, and
socioeconomic status. They create a table the Effects of "Consciousness of Correctness" of
Adolescents . The overall results are in table 1. The total number of words spoken, student’s
disfluencies number. In this survey they did a two way “consciousness treatment” and” no
consciousness treatment” and the students divided four groups
1. Upper ses males

2. Upper ses females

3. Lower ses males

4. Lower ses females

And the result shows that The lower SES males in the "Consciousness" treatments exceeded the

scores upper-SES males, upper-SES females, and lower SES females in the "No Consciousness"

treatment.

So inclusion they said that variety of speech and contexts in the English classroom and the

student’s has close attention on the teacher. There are different types of students and of

individual students to those contexts and teacher responsibility to guide the student . Make sure

that students speak simple, standard and correct pronunciation. In educational thought to

confound directives and control by the teacher in the classroom with a lack of warmth or

supports for students. English teachers should require student’s speech to conform to norms

difference from those of their speech community has changed considerably. The English teacher

teaches and enforces the standard language Commission encouraging students to express freely

their personal opinions, thereby developing fluency and fineness of speech.

Part two :

In my opinion, this is the reason people want to learn English in our country.

In our country education sector English, language learners, increasing day bay day. A vast

number of educators and learners in English. The aim of the language teaching and learning is to

promote Bangladeshi people have a competence in English to get access to the modern
opportunities. Learners are instrumentally motivated to acquire English language proficiency for

a number of reasons. Learners are interested to access global resources of knowledge, such as

information and technology, to succeed in academic examination, get a good job, to study

abroad etc.

Yes, I am relating this article in our thing processing in English

In Bangladesh there are three education sectors, from primary level to higher secondary level,

Bangla medium, English medium and madrassa education.

Bangla medium education is divided into two government schools and kindergartens.

Government schools have two English language compulsory subjects. English first paper and

second paper. On English second paper have grammar side. At first teacher teach the rules and

he gives that example and student apply the rules and make practice in the classroom. He asked

question we answered the question.

This article refers that student’s has close attention on the teacher. I agree with that student has

a close attention on teacher lecture. When the teacher gives that lecture on the

classroom,students learning teacher correct spelling, pronunciation,and fluency . Student

follow that teacher rule and they learn correctly. There are different types of students in the

classroom, they have a different problem and teacher responsibility to guide the students and

correct their problem and supports the students . The English teacher teaches and encouraging

students to express freely their personal opinions, thereby developing fluency and fineness of

speech.

Yes, language depends on social class and social context. For example, anyplace when people

use in English language people thought he was rich or elite people and he belongs in a standard

family he has a social class. The classroom when student use in English language teacher

thought he was a good student. When a student comes in English medium school,we thought he

was good in English and he comes standard family.

Yes, the consciousness and correctness affect my fluency. Fluency is the ability to read

accurately, smoothly and with expression.  Fluent readers recognize words automatically,

without struggling over decoding issues. They sound natural, as if they are speaking.  But when

I am speaking, if I am conscious and grammatically correctly speaking my fluency is slow and

sound choppy. And I do not express my feelings properly I was slow and loss my vocabulary.

So I am including my opinion teacher guided us properly and supports the students and

encouraged the students . It is important for the students also to practice, engaging them in

repeated reading. Then should be easy to learn.
