In overall English Business activities the intern has done was not in
spoken language. The practical area gave us more opportunities to know about
managing an English course/non-formal education. The use of spoken language
was less than written language. However, the theories that have learned in the
campus are still be a guidance in implementing the internship program. So, for
example, instead of telephoning, letter, and responding client’s question.

B. Activities Explanation
In the first day of internship, the trainee was did briefing and training
product with another new staffs in order to know about ION s International
Education, IONs brands and programs. We are guided by Mrs. Anastasia Frida
as HRD Manager of IONs International Education. The training product is
important for every new staff because all staffs in IONs should know all about
IONs brands and programs. Ody and I was introduced to various products and
tenants from IONs. After that, we got a little tour around IONs to see activities
in each division such as Front Office division, Person in Charge division,

14
Marketing division, Education division, Library division, Hygiene division, and
Security division.
We were placed in the REAL Education Division from March 9 to
March 22, then placed in the Marketing division from March 28 to April 5. In
REAL Education Division Ody and I was guided by Mrs. Apri. We got a lot of
experiences there. We got knowledge about some types of standardized test that
apply internationally. In education division, we also interact with teachers who
are native speakers. We got a very warm welcome from them. In the first
meeting with the teachers, one of the native teacher, Mr. Coterill asks us to help
him collect the media kit for kids. Ody and I taught to correct IELTS Simulation
Test and TOEFL PBT Simulation Test. We also got chance in assisting TOEFL
PBT Test event organized by the collaboration of IONs International Education
and UGM.
Start from 28th March, we were placed in the Marketing division. In the
Marketing Division, we got a lot of knowledge which related with business,
where most activities in the Marketing Division use English. Ody and I guided
by Mr. Dimas, Mr. Tauhid and Ms. Phulia Negara. We were taught about how
to make a good and right marketing plan, using a variety of activities, such as
the use of advertising, both in print and social media.
In Marketing Division, our focus was in Digital Marketing department
which is responsible for telemarketing work. We learned a lot of new things
here, especially the importance of social media marketing strategies. A social
media strategy is a summary of everything planned to do achieve on social
media. It guides the actions and tells about our success or failure. Every post,
reply, like and comment should serve a purpose.
We were also taught about copywriting by Mrs. Phulia Negara.
Copywriting can be defined as the art of writing that is used to obtain the
readers. Before make copywriting, we need to brainstorm content, so we learn
about content pillars first. A content pillar is a substantive and informative piece

15
of content on a specific topic or theme that can be broken into many derivative
sections, pieces, and materials. We also learn about social media content
calendar. A content calendar will help us to post our content consistently across
platforms that are planned and scheduled in advance. In the end of our
internship, we were taugh about the Iconosquare and Hootsuite application.
These two application are used to upload content banks that we have prepared
to upload at a certain time.

Figure 3.1 Content Calendar

C. Problem Analysis
During the internship, I did not face any significant problems in IONs
International Education. The staffs were very warm welcome, the environment
was comfortable, and the instruction from the supervisor always clear. The
materials from my lecturer can be applied in my internship period such as
telephoning, offering help, asking for help, and many others.

16
CHAPTER IV
CLOSING
A. Conclusion
An internship, for the sake of the practicum class of English Business,
is very important to expand student’s opportunities in the future. ION s
International Education is chosen as an appropriate place to have an
internship program. An internship program which is held for about a month
has already given lots of knowledge and experiences. Besides broadening
student’s knowledge and ability in English business, especially English
business communication; in this place the student also practice their soft
skill and directly contact with working environment.
Moreover, by taking the internship program, the intern’s
communication skills, creativity and problem solving, in terms of business
and language itself, are more improved. Later on, the intern can manage
herself to be ready to get involved in the work area.

B. Suggestion

From observation and experiences during the internship, there are some
suggestions which are:
1. For IONs International Education
a. The improvement of building’s facility, especially parking
area.
b. Add more sign about room and direction in the building.
c. The effectiveness of employees time work.
2. For Yogyakarta State University
a. The business concentration lecturers, especially, have a wide
enough relations or recommendations of places for the

17
internships which are relevant to the requirements given by
the concentration itself.
b. Check on the students who are in the internship program. Not
have to be directly, but it is enough by contacting the
supervisor via social media.
