My Reflection

I started my first ever semester of college in professor Massies English 1301 class. Going

in was scary for me, I have struggled with dyslexia all my 12 years of school and I was worried it

would get in the way. Even though I love reading I tend to shy away from it, but I have learned

how to work at my own pace, but still getting things done on time, and reading everything I am

given.

I did not know what I was getting into with it being my first year of college, but I knew I

had to try my best. I was never good with time management since I am lazy and a big

procrastinator. The first week of college I was not thanking much for how hard it would be. But I

soon realized that if I want to pass not only this semester but all four years, I will have to buckle

down and learn how to manage my time and get my work done. When I was assigned work, I

would either try to get everything done the first day, or I would wait until the last minute to get it

all done. But I soon found out both had ended with bad grades and regrets. So, I was determined

to figure out a way to manage my time equally out of all four classes. After a little reading and

research, I found a couple of ways to properly space out my time. Scheduling time for everything

really helped me, setting time for when I can do my assignments really helps with making sure

everything gets done.

Another thing I have learned this semester would be to read everything. In high school, I

am used to skimming through instructions not only because it is a lot to read, but because with

my dyslexia it makes it harder. I get so frustrated with myself because it is harder for me to read

even trivial things, so I would try my hardest to stay away from it. But I have learned the hard

way that you cannot do that in college. Taking your time and reading everything is not only

worth it but can almost guarantee good grades. For example, in professor Massies class she looks

for double space, font size twelve, and text in times new roman. At the beginning of the

semester, I did not read her syllabus and did not know that this was needed so of course I got

points taken off because I did not apply the proper format to my essay.

Coming up to the end of this semester I have learned a lot of things not only about

myself, but also how to navigate successfully through college. With proper time management

and reading, I believe that not only me, but many others could successfully pass-through college

with challenging work.
