SIGNS CLASSIFY AS TREATMENT:

No signs of severe DHF Fever: DHF Unlikely Advice mother when to return
immediately.
Follow up in 2 days if fever
persists or child shows signs of
bleeding.

WHEN TO RETURN:
Advice mother when to return immediately- If the child develop a signs that may lead to sever DHF.

FOLLOW UP CARE:
FEVER: DENGUE
If fever persists after 2 days or the child shows signs of bleeding:

 Do a full reassessment of the child. > See ASSESS & CLASSIFY chart.
 Repeat the tourniquet test.
Treatment:

 If the child has any general danger sign or bleeding, treat as SEVERE DHF.
 If a child has a positive tourniquet test, give plan B- give fluids rapidly. Advise the mother to
refer children urgently to the hospital.
 If the child has any other cause of fever other than dengue, provide treatment.
 If there is no other apparent cause of fever: If the fever has been present for 7 days, refer for
assessment

DO NOT GIVE ASPIRIN!!!!!


Patients should seek medical advice, rest and drink plenty of fluids. Paracetamol can be taken to bring
down fever and reduce joint pains. However, aspirin or ibuprofen should not be taken since they can
increase the risk of bleeding.
