Laboratory Exercise #1
1. What do you know about nutrition?
 The study of nutrition is prime importance throughout a person’s life.
All persons need the same kinds of nutrients, but the amounts vary
according to factors like age, sex, body size, physical activity, state of
health, and specific physiological conditions. No natural food by itself
has all the nutrients one needs, but with careful planning, including a
variety of foods plus caloric control, an adequate and well-balance
diet is obtainable.

2. Why do you think nutrition is essential in the practice of nursing profession?

 Nurses are responsible for assessing food and nutrition intake in all
care settings. Critical evaluation of intake information is vital. Both
objective and subjective information should be evaluated in order to
verify accuracy. It is known that certain groups under- or over report
intake; therefore, the information gathered should never be accepted at
face value. It is important to remember that once the information is
obtained, the nurse must evaluate the information in order to
determine if accurate information has been collected.

3. Name one thing that comes into your mind when you hear the word
nutrition?
 The first word that comes to my mind when I hear nutrition is food.
Food is any substance, organic or inorganic when digested or eaten
nourishes the body by building and repairing tissues, supplying heat
and energy, and regulating bodily processes.
