Components and Circuits

AC & DC
-Alternating Current

-Direct Current
AC
Alternating current, flow of electricity constantly reverses.
DC
Direct Current, electricity flows in one direction.
Circuits
Flow of electricity
Resistors
-Adds resistance to circuits and reduces flow of electrical current. Represented at
pointy squiggle with value. Measured in ohms.
Capacitor
-Component that stores electricity and discharges it into a circuit when there’s a
drop in electricity.
Diodes
-Components that only allow electrical current to pass through in one direction.
Useful when placed in a circuit to prevent electricity from flowing in wrong
direction.
Fuse
-Protect a circuit from overheating and damaging a circuit or components.
LED’S
Emits light when anode or cathode are connected or have power.
Transistors
Amplifies small electrical currents so that much larger currents can pass through
the collector and emitter pins.
Integrated Circuits
Miniature circuit used to connect points
Potentiometers
Variable resistors used to control or change the resistance in a circuit.
Switches
Mechanical device that creates break in the circuit.
Batteries
Container that converts chemical energy into electricity.
Wire
Measured by gauge
Breadboards
Special electronic prototyping boards, with split electrical continuous holes.
