Components and Circuits

Jared Duran
AC DC
There are 2 types of electrical signals, those being alternating current (AC), and
direct current (AC)
Circuit
The flow of electricity

Circuit closed = complete

Circuit open = not complete

Resistors
Measured in ohms

Reduces the electrical current

Capacitor
Regulates the amount of current going through keeps it consistent
Diodes
Diode makes electricity go one way
Fuse
Protects circuit from overheating
Led’s
Light emitting diode

The longer leg on it is called the anode (+side) it will connect to power. The shorter
leg is a cathode
Transistors
A transistor amplifies it so that a larger current can pass between the collector and
emitter pins.
Integrated circuit
An integrated circuit is an entire specialized circuit that has been miniaturized and
fit onto one small chip with each leg of the chip connecting to a point within the
circuit.
potentiometers
Potentiometers are variable resistors

They change the resistance in a circuit

Switches
Creates a break in a circuit turns it on/off
Batteries
Uses chemical energy for electricity
Wire
Measured by gauge smaller the gauge the larger the wire
Breadboards
Used to prototype electronics. They are covered with a grid of holes
Series circuit
Powered on by a switch and loops around all components
Parallel circuit
Connected parallel from each other
