Morality helps us discover how we should live our lives as a result of our faith in God’s word

which has been revealed to us. It challenges our ability to respond and to love God. It is part
of what it means to be a human being. We have basic dignity which flows from our being
created in God’s image. This implies that we can think and love and be in relationship to
others in community. Our conscience aids us in a life directed to God and other people.

The Ten Commandments provide the behavioral code that, if everyone abided by, will
subject the entire earth to absolute love, peace, unity, and preservation of life. God gave the
commandments not to earn salvation but because of letting us know what he is like and
what matters for him. He wants us to live good lives — lives that are peaceful and happy
and productive. God is not a harsh, angry judge just waiting for us to get out of line so he can
punish us. He is our loving heavenly Father, who knows what is best for us. We are God’s
people, set apart to live according to God’s ways.
Jesus knew the intention of the young man. He knew that the young man was looking for a
way to earn his perfection on his own terms. He may have thought that Jesus would give him
a specific deed or task that would not require him to humble himself or unconditionally set
his life under the authority of Christ. Instead, Jesus set up a requirement for him to win
eternal life that clearly illustrated the basic issue: the rich young man’s desire to retain control
of his life.
Jesus was right of what this man really needed based on how he behaved----not to gain life
but to gain perfection. What really matters is the purpose that the man can offer from his
possessions in the changing times. Our possession does not only provide the meaning and
security in our lives, but also as blessings or opportunities that can help us fulfill our role in
God’s kingdom. We do not count the percentage of your possessions that is being taken
away. Instead, we think of the people and the needs observed in this changing times. We also
live our lives to see if our hearts also go for others.
Our time on Earth is temporary, and we are all headed to eternity somewhere. When we bid
farewell to this world, we leave all our possessions behind. No amount of possessions gives
us a better or worse position after life. The only possession we can take with us is what our
good heart does. God cares about the valuable things that we do for others. Although we can
choose to focus our lives on temporary wealth, God offers us treasure that lasts forever: a
relationship with Him that begins here and continues for eternity in heaven.

Jesus does not mean that we must literally give up everything in a way that we become
single, poor, homeless. He is saying that the life we currently know and have, we have to be
willing to leave it. You have to be willing to trust everything to God. This explains why Jesus
referred to the rich man having a more difficult time getting to heaven. The rich man is so
attached to this world that even the idea of giving it all up his material possessions is almost
impossible to contemplate. He cannot even figure out where to start!
