THREE CYLINDER FOUR STROKE PETROL ENGINE WITH EDDY CURRENT

DYNAMOMETER TEST RIG

AIM :-To study the performance of FOUR-STROKE petrol engine.

APPARATUS:-Three cylinder four stroke petrol engine with eddy current dynamometer test
rig.

PRECAUTIONS:-

1. Keep the system in clean and dry place.

2. Connect the 230V A.C supply to the unit. Use proper neutral and earthing.
3. Before operating the system check level of oil in engine. If oil is not ok then fill the oil as
per standard level.
4. Check the Dynamometer panel.
5. Check the wiring of Dynamometer before starting the engine.
6. Check water supply of engine.
7. Constant water supply is needed for engine and Dynamometer.
8. While loading the engine through the dynamometer at regular intervals in loading
conditions.
9. Make sure that all the toggle switch is ON while performing performance test.
10. Make stepwise loading of engine and up to maximum 40Nm.
11. Do not disturb the safety guard of propeller shaft for safety purpose test rig.
12. While starting the engine always check the fuel supply of engine through flexible hoes.
13. While unloading the engine please handle the accelerator with care by decreasing the
speed of the engine.
14. Also, always check the air supplied to engine through air box.

OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES
⮚ Initially check all the electric connections to engine and dynamometer.
⮚ Check the fuel connection and the fuel supply to the engine.
⮚ Check the supply to the engine through orifice and air box.
⮚ Check water supply through the engine, dynamometer and exhaust gas calorimeter.
⮚ Set the water for 1500LPH for engine water jacket and 500LPH for exhaust gas
calorimeter.
⮚ Set the water supply at full opened position for dynamometer and adjust accordingly.
⮚ Connect the battery supply to battery for starting the engine.
⮚ Then start the engine and set it for 2400RPM from the dynamometer panel.
⮚ Then wait for stable 2400RPM of engine up to 5mins.
⮚ Take first reading at no load condition means zero loads at dynamometer display load
unit.
⮚ You will observe that RPM of engine get reduced, therefore increase the engine RPM by
accelerator arrangement and set up to 2400RPM.
⮚ Wait for a minute and note down the readings for above load, simultaneously also check
water supply through dynamometer and engine water jacket.
⮚ Note down readings for different loads.
⮚ After finishing all the readings for safety of system kindly decelerate the engine by
unloading the engine at the same time.
⮚ Do calculations and perform the heat balance sheet for the engine performance as per
below observation table and calculations.
⮚ Switch off the engine ignition switch.
⮚ Switch off the main switch.
⮚ Repeat the above procedure.
