In the realization of the DEPED’s Mission and Vision of empowering every
learner with necessary skills particularly to promote the development and growth of campus journalism as a way to strengthen ethical values, encourage critical and creative thinking and to develop moral character and personal discipline of the Filipino youth, the region of Caraga held its annual Regional Schools Press Conference on November 5-9, 2018 as an integral part of the Regional Integrated Students Activities (RISA) with the theme “Celebrating Diversity and Inclusive Education Through Talents and Skills”. In line with this, Carrascal National High School attended once again competed in the regional competition with the Pukot Staff and aspiring journalists who won in the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) in Madrid, Surigao del Sur. There were four qualifiers for the RSPC competing for the events namely; News Writing, Feature Writing, Sports Writing and one Radio Broadcasting Technical all in English Category. Though they were not able to attend the Enhancement Training set by the Division on October 25 in Cagwait as stipulated in Division Memorandum No. 441, the participants had trained themselves with their coach and be prepared for the contest. The students along with their school paper adviser, Mrs. Elvie Lyka Lumanao-Duran left for Buenavista, Agusan del Norte on November 4, 2018 with a copy of Pukot publication and with high hopes to win both individual and group contests. Upon their arrival to Buenavista, the participants were given billeting quarter in Buenavista National High School. The first day (Monday) commenced with the registration of participants in the morning and in the afternoon was the official opening of the Regional Schools Press Conference. All the individual and group events were set on Day-2 to Day-4 (Tuesday-Thursday), where Mrs. Elvie Lyka Lumanao-Duran along with her participants went to the contest venues for the lectures and contest proper. Lastly, the closing program and awarding ceremony was done on November 9, 2018. Dennis Von G. Itaas, the technical director of Carrascal National High School broadcasting team won 4th place as the Best in Technical Application, 5 th Best in Infomercial and the same rank in Overall Radio Broadcast Production. Meanwhile, Ralph Jade Cadenas also clinched on the 6th place for News Writing (English). Division Schools Press Conference Narrative Report
As stated in the Declaration of Policy of Campus Journalism Act of 1991, the
State shall undertake various programs and projects aimed at improving the journalistic skills of students and promoting responsible and free journalism. Anent to this, the Division of Surigao del Sur held its annual Division Schools Press Conference on October 10-12, 2018 with the theme “Fostering 21 st Century Skills and Character-Based Education through Campus Journalism”. Meanwhile, Carrascal National High School contended in the division competition with the Pukot Staff and aspiring journalists who were chosen in the Municipal Schools Press Conference (MSPC) in Carrascal, Surigao del Sur. Journalists from various events gathered for a safe ride to the venue at Madrid National High School, Madrid, Surigao del Sur. As they arrived at the venue, the participants were given billeting quarter in Madrid National High School. The first day, October 10, 2018, began with the registration of participants in the morning and in the afternoon was the official opening of the Division Schools Press Conference. On the next day, journalists from individual and group events were ready for the various individual and group events; journalism advisers guide them during the lectures and the contest proper on their respective events. Then, the variety show, which was only attended by few, closing program and awarding ceremony was done on the last day, October 12, 2018. Dennis Von G. Itaas, the technical director of his broadcasting team won 1 st place as Best in Technical Application, 3rd Best in Scriptwriting and 3 rd Placer in Overall Radio Broadcast Production. In addition, Arah Bella Silva placed 1 st in Feature Writing while Daniella June Correos got 5th place in Sports Writing and the Pukot School Paper won the 4 th place in English Category. Meanwhile, Ralph Jade Cadenas also topped 3 rd for News Writing (English).
