2-DAY DIVISION SCHOOLS PRESS CONFERENCE

The theme of the Division Schools Press Conference “Fostering 21st Century
Skills and Character-Based Education through Campus Journalism“. Just about
2,000 students joined the two-day Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC)
2019 for elementary and secondary schools in the city last September 11 and 12,
2019 at Xavier University Macasandig Campus and Xavier University Pueblo
Campus. Cagayan de Oro City Schools Division journalism reported that 72
elementary and 43 junior high schools from all over the city participated in the
yearly activity.

The following categories that students are competing: photojournalism, editorial


cartooning, sports writing, editorial writing, news writing, feature writing, copy
reading and headline writing, column writing, science and technology writing,
online publishing, script writing and radio broadcasting, collaborative and desktop
publishing and TV broadcasting (English and Filipino). According to RA 7079,
the purpose of schools press conferences is to demonstrate understanding of the
importance of journalism by expressing it through different journalistic endeavors
and approaches, sustain advocacy on social consciousness, provide a venue for an
enriching learning experience for students interested in pursuing journalism as a
career, promote responsible journalism and fair and ethical use of social media,
enhance journalistic competence through healthy and friendly competitions and
select best performers to represent the division for the Regional Schools Press
Conference to be held at Ozamis City. Bugo National High School competes with
other private and public schools all over Cagayan de Oro City. In the first day, was
the opening program wherein the Schools Division Superintendent Jonathan S.
Dela Peña, Ph.D CESO V gave an inspiring speech to all the delegates for the
DSCPC.
The guest speaker during that day was no other than the Mayor of Cagayan de Oro
City Mayor Oscar Moreno. Opening program took the entire morning and the
contest proper started at exactly 1pm in the afternoon. The different categories was
held also in different schools located near the Macasandig Gymnasium. During the
awarding the Bugo National High School participants spearheaded by Mrs.
Annalee Ampuan received the following awards 1st Runner-up in school paper
contest -( The Vision) English Category- Secondary Level, 2nd Runner -up Over-
all in School Paper Contest for both English and Fil. Categories- Secondary Level,
2nd Runner-up Over-all in English Category-Secondary Level, 2nd Runner-up
Overall in DSPC 2018.
