College Artisans Bulletin participates the OSSEI National Conference on

Campus Journalism and13th Writing Competition

The College Artisans Bulletin team went to Baguio City to participate in the OSSEI
National Conference on Campus Journalism and 13 th Writing Competition. The
Organization of Student Services Educators Inc., conducted a 3-day seminar-workshop
which was held on February 20-22, 2020 at the Crown Legacy Hotel, Baguio City. It
was participated by different school publications from various places.
The event was facilitated by the OSSEI Board of Directors headed by Dr. Bella M.
Villanueva, the OSSEI President. A keynote speech was given by Dr. Paz H. Diaz, the
Vice President for Academics of the Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication.
On February 20, 2020- day 1 of the event Dr. Bella M. Villanueva discussed about
the Review on English Grammar. It was followed by News Writing by Mr. Melvin
Gascon, who currently with the Philippine Daily Inquirer and shared important things
about sharing accurate news to the public and Editorial Writing by Mr. Ben Domingo Jr.,
CHED Tech. Committee on Journalism. Each event was followed by competition
proper.
February 21, 2020- day 2, Mr. Jimmy Domingo, a freelance visual journalist and
lecturer at UDP and DLSU discussed the elements of Multimedia Journalism. After the
discussion, each publication’s team was given an allotted time to prepare and
accomplish their Multimedia presentations to be checked at 7 o’clock in the evening. It
was followed by the next speaker Dr. Regidor Gaboy, the Dean of the College of
Education of Central Luzon State University who taught each participants about the
techniques for Page Design and Layout. Another speaker was Ms. Joyce Panares, a
News Editor from Philippine Standard who discussed about Feature Writing and
Editorial Cartooning by Mr.Glenn V. Agustin from DepEd, Cabanatuan City who
demonstrates techniques in Editorial Cartooning. A competition was followed after
every discussion of each event. An inspirational talk was also shared by the different
OSSEI graduates who shared their personal experiences in participating OSSEI events
and how it honed their capacity from aspiring journalists to successful persons in their
fields. February 22, 2020- day 3 was the presentation of the winning entries and
awarding of trophies and medals to the winners in each event. Winners in News Writing
event are from the University of Southern Mindanao, Kabacan (first place), John Ivan
Matinaga (second place) and Baliuag University (third place). Winners from Editorial
Writing event are from the University Of Southern Mindanao (first place), Baliuag
University (second place), and Colegio De San Juan De Letran, Calamba (third place)
also an Honorable Mention was awarded to the University Of Southern Mindanao,
Kabacan.
Winners in Feature Writing are from Mindoro State College of Agriculture and
Technology- Calapan (first place), Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-
South La Union Campus (second place), Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State
University- South La Union Campus (third place), Cebu Normal University (fourth
place), Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University- South La Union Campus (fifth
place). Winners in the Editorial Cartooning are from Capiz State University, Roxas City,
Main Campus (first place), Ustp (second place), Leyte Normal University (third place),
Colegio De San Juan De Letran, Calamba (fourth place), and Faith Colleges (fifth
place). In Page Layout and Design winners are from Mindoro State College of
Agriculture and Technology (third place), Bataan Heroes College (fourth place), and
Baliuag University (fifth place). The Multimedia Journalism winners are "Dna In Fabrics"
by Capiz State University, Roxas City, Main Campus (third place), "Kinabuklatan" by
Faith Colleges (second place), and "Abel" by Leyte Normal University (first place).
