A GERUND is a verb in its -ING form, used as a noun. For example: eating, writing, drinking, seeing.
GERUNDS are used: as the subject of a sentence. (Los gerundios se usan como sujeto de una oración.)
2. After some verbs, such as: LIKE, LOVE, HATE, ENJOY, QUIT, SUGGEST, DISLIKE, DENY….
4. THE INFINITIVE FORM OF THE VERB is the original verb. It can be with or without "to".
For example: (to) go, (to)write, (to)swim.
The Infinitive form is used: After some verbs, such as: agree, arrange, ask, promise, decide, afford.
a) I agreed to do the work this afternoon. a) Jenny arranged to see the doctor.
b) They decided to get married soon.
5. To show the reason why you did something. a) Henry went to the bank to pay a bill.
6. After adjectives. It's nice to see you again. a) I'm pleased to meet you.
8. Some verbs can be followed by a gerund or an infinitive, but there is a change in meaning.
For example: try, remember, stop
a) They tried to play the soccer game. c) They tried playing the soccer game.
b) You remember to do the exercises. d) You remember doing the exercises.
7. Amparo is very angry. Johnny has phoned her four times but she refuses ………………………(speak) to him.
8. ……………………………..(swim) is better than running fast. And loving is better than hating.
9. The offender arrested by the police denied …………………………………. ((rob) the store. He said he had an alibi.
12. The student pretended ……………………………….( have ) a stomach ache and left school early.
16. Few people in the town can afford ………………………………. (buy) the trendiest smartphone today.
18. The men imagined ……………………………(win) the lottery to travel around the world.
19. Anna has planned ………………………………. (travel) to Barranquilla this Holy Week.
21. After …………………………. (eat) lunch, my brother watches television in the living room.
