4.

Executive summary

The purpose of doing internship is to do work in an institution so that applying all


the knowledge practically which I learned during 3 year of our study and also
learned the work or action are done in the Bank of Punjab. This practice of doing
work in an organization will help me in our work. When we completed our work
and do job professionally this experience will help us a lot that how to deal with
customers, how to interact and how to impress them so that they attract to our
organization and how we will perform all the functions and our duties in future
efficiently and properly. The main reason was to studying all the function which
are done in bank sector. Due to this, we enable to become a knowledgeable
person who know about (any organization) banking system.

As I am student of bachelor of business and administrative sciences that’s why I


have done internship to get experience of banking and enhance my knowledge
and skills about banking. I did my internship in bank of Punjab (Daska, main
branch,0056). As an internee I was excited to learn knowledge in professional
knowledge. I learnt many things, i.e. how to behave professionally, how to do
banking job, how to manage different tasks in a limited period of time, how to
deal with customers. How to communicate with them, How to tackle different
problems in professional way.

Chapter 1: introduction

5.1 Introduction

It is compulsory for every student which is studying bachelors of business and


administrative sciences to do six week internship in any known organization to
learn how to do work as a professional and other skills and ethics of the business
environment. The purpose of this activity is also to make possible for students to
do work with different type of people which are professionals , after doing
internship student are able to take decision that either they are fit for job or they
will do their own business.

The purpose of doing internship is to do work in an institution so that applying all


the things practically which I learned during 3 year of our study and also learned
the work or action are done in the Bank of Punjab. This practice of doing work in
an organization will help us in our work. When we completed our work and do job
professionally this experience will help us a lot that how to deal with customers,
how to interact and how to impress them so that they attract to our organization
and how we will perform all the functions and our duties in future efficiently and
properly. The main reason was to studying all the function which are done in
bank sector. Due to this, we enable to become a knowledgeable person who
know about (any organization) banking system.

As I am student of bachelor of business and administrative sciences that’s why I


have done internship to get experience of banking and enhance my knowledge
and skills about banking. I did my internship in bank of Punjab (Daska, main
branch, 0056). As an internee I was excited to learn knowledge in professional
knowledge. I learnt many things, i.e. how to behave professionally, how to do
banking job, how to manage different tasks in a limited period of time, how to
deal with customers. How to communicate with them, How to tackle different

problems in professional way. And I observed that how employees actually
behave with their colleagues and how to behave with their boss. The main target
of doing work in Bank is to work in real life stage as compare to study in books
and admire the knowledge by doing work in Banking sector and practice it
personally for gaining more knowledge and experience. This was very good
experience for me to work in banking sector, now I am prepare to prepare a
comprehensive report on my experiences and learning.

5.1.1 Scope of study

Scope was internship is to give platform to learn professional knowledge to


business students. This knowledge will prove helpful for students to give market
what it is demanding, and after doing internship students are able to know the
situation, demands and requirement of the market. Before doing internship it’s
difficult for me to decide at which job I have more interest about know I am able
to decide at which job I am actually fit. I specially work at remittance department,
and I enjoyed it a lot. I also learned a lot.

Following are the objectives of doing internship.

about banking activities for example, cash transactions and financial
statements like income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement and
main financial report of year.

5.2 Overview of the organization

5.2.1 Brief history

I will start with the vision and the mission of bank of Punjab .the vision of the
bank of Punjab is “to become a bank which is customer focused and also
providing services which are excellence in nature”. And the mission of the bank
of Punjab is “to meet the expectation of all stake holders by building strong
relationship with k government of Punjab and providing a full flag domain of
professional solutions, with focus on product and services in the agriculture field
and to the middle marketers by the motivated team”. Punjab bank of Pakistan
was first formed in 16-11-1989 under the Bank of Punjab act 1989. The first
main branch was opened in Lahore in 1989. It is was non-scheduled bank in the
start. The bank was opened with the support of government of Pakistan so that’s
why in the start of bank all the deposits were the government. The Bank of
Punjab was converted into scheduled bank in 1994 and opened many branches
in all over the country.

The Bank provide all services like local currency deposits, provide loans, convert
local currency into foreign currency and invest into business or firm also. It has
241 branches in all over the country and out of the country also. The main profits
the bank earns from exchange of money, landing money in investment,
controlling the abroad business import and export and market and the facility of
performing money in the market by the Bank of Punjab.

The Bank of Punjab also do work for farmers of the country. The Bank of Punjab
introduced a scheme of Kisan Dost Agriculture Finance. This scheme is
started for the farmers who start their work on small level. In 1990s the new
strategies of bank at national level introduced two important services.

1. The saving side of economy has increased efficiently and effectively and in the
result investment side of bank also going on increasing trend.

2. The bank also enlarged its quality of services for their clients so in the result
they have strong relation with bank activities.

The bank of Punjab is public type of organization which was founded in 1989.its
head quarter is locating in Lahore, Pakistan. The first branch of bank of Punjab
was opened Lahore (city of Pakistan). And the inauguration of first branch of the
bank of Punjab was performed by Mr. Nawaz Sharif (the chief minister of
Pakistan at that time, he is also the current prime minister of Pakistan. Bank of
Punjab is the best bank of the whole banking sectors which is providing facilities
to the students as well as business man and especially to the formers for the
purpose of agriculture.in 1992 the bank of Punjab was managed by Punjab
Mudarba service limited in 1994 Bank of Punjab was given the title / status of
scheduled bank. This bank is working with almost 273 branches only in Pakistan.

Bank of Punjab is playing the most important role in the rotation and utilization of
financial resources of the country which prove helpful for the battlement of our
country.

The Name of Bank of Punjab’s president is Naeemuddin khan, Deputy CEO’s is
khalid timizey, Head HR is Mughis Bokhai, the name of head retail banking is
shahid W. Mahmood, the chief risk officer is Abdul razaq, name of head
enterprise risk management officer is Salman kabani, name of head transactional
banking is Mustafa hamdani, and current CIO 0f bank of Punjab is javed Iqbal.

5.2.2 Nature of organization

The bank of Punjab is a scheduled public type of bank which is providing


different facilities and all type of banking services to the customers. Such as
deposit in local currency, customer deposit in foreign, customer Current Account
(CA), Young Loin Saving Account (New product from 2010), and Tijarat Account
etc. Strong resource of enlargement of economy and increase the number of
stakeholders through providing high quality services and set the best standard of
professionals, honesty and group work. Also built a good relationship with the
government of Punjab and provide them the professionals work. Basically bank
of Punjab is a governmental bank and it is implementing all the rules and
regulations of the government. Bank of Punjab is also an agent of state bank of
Pakistan (SBP). As a governmental bank it also have to perform different function
like to deal with government revenue, to collecting and distributing the payments
of pensions and salary to the government job holder and government retired
employees. Bank of Punjab also deals with different funds such as PEEF and
other scholarships for students and other different scholarships for GVT
employees, which are eligible on criteria basis.

This banking is founded in 1989, BOP is a largest bank of Pakistan which has an
assets 2.7 billion US dollars and according to the Pakistani currency its assets
are RS.164.7 billion. Bank of Punjab has its total 394 conventional branches in
different cities of Pakistan. And its total Islamic branches are 48 in all over
Pakistan. Total ATM office of bank of Punjab are 271 in all over the Pakistan.
Bank of Punjab has given loans to the different organizations and needy peoples
on behalf of any evidence to fulfill the needs. Bank of Punjab is playing a vital
role in the financial facilitation to the people and organizations .Total loans of
BOP are 103.7 billion RS. According to the Naeemuddin khan (President of bank
of Punjab). The deposit of bank of Punjab is increasing by the rate of 17 % from
last six year. While talking to media he also said that bank of Punjab has
provided financing to metro service Lahore, metro service Islamabad, orange line
projects and all has paid back. Now total Deposits of Bank of Punjab are
approximately 356 billion according to Pakistani currency.

Bank of Punjab has received award of excellence by central board of
revenue (CBR). Central board of revenue has been presented an award to
the bank of Punjab due to the contribution which it done toward the GVT
treasury funds.

Bank of Punjab has contributed a lot specially for the agriculture field and
give too much facilities to the formers The basic purpose of this to
improve and growth of the agricultural field/ sector. It was great
contribution of bank of Punjab. In this regard the bank of Punjab honored

Bank of Punjab won award of best corporation report award due to
submission of annual report.

In 2006 bank of Punjab was honored by the award of excellence under
16th Bolan Excellence award distribution.

5) Achievement award
In 2006 chamber of commerce and industry (Lahore) honored bank of
Punjab by the award of achievement.

5.2.3.1 Success story of bank of Punjab

According to the president of bank of Punjab Mr. Naeemudin bank of


Punjab have face the turnover, he said with in the period of few years
bank of Punjab has been transformed from a loss making organization to
the successful, healthy and profit making organization.
According to him bank of has faced a great loss in 2008, after that
employees of bank of Punjab worked with more struggle and in 2015 BOP
generated the profit of 5.7 billion Pakistani rupees, before the month of
September.
During the period of 2009-2015 deposits of bank of Punjab has increase
with the ratio of 117 percent.
In 2013, bank of Punjab has also introduce the Islamic banking with the
name of “Taqwa Islamic banking” now bank has approximately 48
branches Islamic banking.

According to Mr. Naeemudin bank of Punjab has generated a lot of profits
by lending to GVT of Punjab hand avoid from private institution who want
to borrow.
He said that bank of Punjab has provided approximately 1.2 billion
Pakistani rupees for the project of metro service Lahore, he said bank of
Punjab has also provided loans for orange line project RS. 10.7 billion.
And it’s opposite to perception of many people all loans has paid back.
Bank of Punjab has also provided financial help for the project of “appna
rozgar scheme”. In 2009 the ratio of (CAR) Capital adequacy ratio had
come at 1.05%. But in 2015 it maintained and stood 11.33 %. As per the
required of state bank of Pakistan.

5.2.4 Product services line

Bop is offering number of different products and services to the


customers. It is also providing some extra products and services to attract
the potential customers. Following are different products and services
which are offering by the bop to its potential customers.

5.2.4.1 Deposits products / Accounts

 Current account
In this account is an account offered by BOP. Bank is not offering
any kind of profit on this type of account. Zakat does not deduct at
this type of Account. Limit of transactions is not decided. Bank of
Punjab is offering free check book, free online facility, and free ATM
against this account. This account is suitable for sole
proprietorship, businesses and individuals that do not want any
profit and deduction of zakat.
 Basic banking Account (BBA)

In this type of account minimum deposit is 1000. Bank of Punjab
has not given any limitation for the least/minimum amount of money
(balance). But it is a rule of bank of Punjab that if there is no
balance in any BBA account till continuously six months, that
account will be automatically closed by bank. Segment of people
like students, GOVT employees, and pensioner are the potential
customer. Because Customer are allowed to do only two
transactions, and can withdraw only two checks.
 Tijarat Account

Bank of Punjab is offering this type of account specially to fulfill the


needs of business individuals and companies. BOP is offering free
online facility for such account holders. Customer can withdraw 25000
per day. Customer will provided with free ATM or debit card if the
average balance is Rs.25,000.

 Supreme current account(FCY)


This account is offering for those customer who has currency other
than Pakistani currency. This account is for EURO, POUNDS, and
US dollars.
Minimum balance criteria is for USD $10,000, for EURO 8000 and
for GBP, 7000.
Sms facility is available with charges. And online facility is available
for RS. 5/ per transaction.
For current FCY account there is no profit no loss. And if profit and
loss account profit will be provided by the ratio of .1.

5.2.4.2 Young lion saving account

Bank of Punjab is basically offering this account to the minors (less


than 18 years) this account was introduce as new product of BOP

in 2010. This is basically account of children but open with parents
or any guardian. Issuance of first cheque book is free. Sms facility
is provided with charges, if required. BOP is also providing free e-
banking facility.

development. In very short period of time is enters in line of leading banks.

This accounts deals with the initial accounts opening of the bank. Only cash book
is maintained here. The basic function of cashbook is to maintain daily balance.
Cash book actually shows the daily balance of the day, at the end of the day
account department receive cash book from the cashier. Opening and closing
balance of the day shown in this book.

It a department of receiving money from the foreign. Bank of Punjab is operating


the remittance department by different ways. Customer only need copy of id card
and and pin code phone number require for the payment of western union.

Bank of Punjab has two cashier in cash department. It is an important


department of bank. At the end of the day both cashier balance the payments of
the whole day’s transaction of all departments. It directly deals with the customer
for their payments.

Clearing department is a department in which cheques of different banks sent to


that banks. These cheques transfer to the banks by TCS. The clearing house is
known as NIFT (National institutional facilitation technologies).

5.3.4.8 Deposit department

It is a department of bank of Punjab which deals with the deposit of the money,
bank give customer loyalty and safeguard.

When cheque of our bank deposited to other banks, after clearing these cheques
through NIFT banks sent these cheque to our bank. Bank credit the account of
customer.

When cheques of our customer deposited in others bank they sent us through
NIF, we debited the account of our customer.

A well-developed and proper structure of any organization is compulsory for


every organization. Basically it provides the framework to the organization. The
operation of the organization involve different type of activities, activities related
to mostly decision making and communicate the decision.

In bank of Punjab the bank manager is responsible to take all types of decision.
All employees are restricted to report about their activities, manager take
decision by consulting with the operation manager. Operational manager directly
report to the branch manager.

5.3.5.3 Delegation

Delegation is a process in which top management transfer its duties to the


subordinate for work flexibility. And its second benefit is that it is helpful for
directly communicate to the customer. In bank of Punjab delegation is being
applied. Manager give responsibilities to the operational manger.

5.3.5.4 Chain of command

Chain of command is a strong chain between all employees. It is a chain of


communication which tells that who will report to whom. Usually every employee
have to report to its senior employee. And at the end all report to the manager.

his/her.

5.4.1 Brief introduction of internee’s office branch

I did my internship in bank of Punjab Daska main branch (0830056).There is anly


one branch of bank of Punjab in Daska which is situated in Sambrial road Daska
near the government Isamia College situated.

Mr. Zahid Dar is a current branch manager of the BOP Daska, main branch. He
is really a great personality, he is too much friendly as much honest with their
duty, the environment of this branch is really very friendly and comfortable. All
the staff members are really very good, helping and caring. They all help to each
other, they give respect to each other, they do not tease any one, they are all are
well educated and well experienced that’s why I leaned from every member of
the staff. All the member of staff were very honest and loyal to their work, they
perform their duties with fully responsibility. They impressed me by their honesty
and lover for work. I also did my job as possible I can do. That’s why they all
were happy with my work. Actually a member from their staff was missing, and I
leant work of remittance, I put my all efforts to to my jo best as it is ossible. Mr

5.4.2 Detail of supervisor

As I already described that all members of BOP were very friendly, hardworking
and especially very supportive by nature. That’s why I learnt from each and every
person/ employee of bank. All have many things to teach, that’s why I consider
that all are my supervisors. First I learnt from mam afshan (grade 2 officer of
bank of Punjab) their main job was related to account opening, that’s why they
teach me how to open an account, how many types of account opening exist in
bank of Punjab, bank of Punjab is offering how many products bank of Punjab is
offering. And then Rana toqeer, my real supervisor teach me a lot, he has great
personality, he teach me a lot, as he is the head of remittance department. That’s
why he teach me each and every thing about remittance department. He told me
what is banking actually, how it works, how bank of Punjab is performing the
function of banking actually.

At First week I was excited for learning the function of banking sector. But I was
little bit confuse, that how will employee behave with me etc.

Tuesday I learnt the information related to account opening. Types of

Wednesday I learnt that how many documents require for account
15-06-2016 opening, which department have which type of requirement.
Which document require in which case etc.
Thursday I learnt how to fill the forms of account opening. How many
16-06-2016 signatures are require, how many stamps are require, which
stamp use for what purpose.
Friday I learn over all about account opening, and I also opened
17-06-2016 and account of a customer.

5.4.3.2 Second week (20 June 2016 to 24 June 2016)

In second week I learn how fulfill the deposit slip and check book.

Monday I leant that a document require for the deposit the money in
20-06-2016 the bank, known as the deposit slip.
Tuesday I learn how fill the deposit slip, how to enter amount if money,
21-06-2016 and how to write the name and information of the depositor of
the money.
Wednesday I filled the deposit slips of the customers, individuals and
22-06-2016 organization, and also learn how to transfer money online, by
one branch of the bank of Punjab to the other branch of the
branch. online money only operate in the same bank, means
customer of the bank of Punjab only can transfer money only
to the person who is the customer of bank of Punjab.
Thursday I learn how to fill a cheque, it was facility for those employees
23-06-2016 who do not know how to fill the cheque, usually customer
take a filled cheque with them and receive cash from cash
department/ cash counter.

At fifth week I learn how to work in clearance department. How to clear the
outward checks, what is inward and outward checques, what is NIFT?

Monday I learn what NIFT is and how it works, what is the function of

5.4.3.6 Sixth week (18th July 2016 to 22 July 2016)

In this week I learnt about a new department known as remittance department.

back of the paper and two signature of the agent ,one at the
front and then to clarify that customer has its original CINC.
Thursday I clear the payments of Xpress, easy pay and western union,
21-07-2016 take a print, and give it to the cash department/ cashier, who
give payment to the customer.
Friday I learn how to withdraw the payments of ‘kashaf payments’ and
22-07-2016 PEEF.

5.4.4 detailed description of the departments in which internee work.

5.4.4.1 Department of bank of Punjab

Following are the different departments of bank of Punjab in which I worked


during my internship. I did work in different departments in bank of Punjab during
my internship. That’s why I will describe the detail of all departments of bank of
Punjab.

1) Account opening department

Account opening department is a department which deals with the opening of


new accounts of the customers. I learnt different types of accounts. accounts
department deals with opening different accounts which are different in nature.
This department is operating by only one person that is mam afshan, which are
grade two officer.so I worked in accounts department under the supervision of
mam afshan.

There are different types of accounts of the bank of Punjab.

 Saving account.
 Current account.

 Individual account.
 Joint account.
 Fixed account.

 Individuals

Housewife account, landlord.

 Companies

Any firm, organization, business.

 Procedure of opening

Following are the procedure of account opening.

When customer comes in bank for account for opening account. Account
opening officer first ask him either u are a student, businessman, job holder or a
pensioner, account operating officer also ask how much amount of money you
will deposit and windrow from your account. Customer fill the form by his/herself
but if he /she face any difficulty officer can help him.

There are two different forms for the account opening.

 Related to the customer information.

1. Customer current account

Current account of bop is an account in which customer can withdraw or deposit


money at any time, this account is for those business or individual who need
money daily, customer can easily deposit or withdraw money at any time that’s
why it is known as current account.

2. Current Account

Further types of current accounts in bank of Punjab

 Bank of Punjab basic banking account

It is a type of account in which customer are usually women or student.


Especially women use it for daily expenditures and students use it for their
expenditure. In this type of account if amount is less than 10,000 the interest will
deduct but if the amount will less.

 Supreme current account

It is an account for the customer who use foreign currency instead of rupees,
account holder can use euro, ponds, and US Dollar.

In current account of supreme there is no profit no loss, same as current account.

 Assan account

Its current account where maximum limit is 500000. If one rupee is more than
500000 account will automatically block by the bank.

 young lion account

This is the account which is for less than 18 year, account open with the name of
child /minor but operations are performed by gardener.

Following are the documents require for opening of account.

 Copy of CNIC.
 Account opening form. (This is the form provided by bank, it’s some part is
filled by customer and some part is filled by operating manager. Account
opening officer).
 Two photograph (in the case of illiteracy customer).
 Specimen card (card for check the signature of the customer, provided by
the bank).
 Check requisition form.
 First deposit of money, minimum amount is 500. Maximum can be
according to the nature of the account.

Further detail of the account opening

When any customer want to open the account, account operating officer give
him all the information about the accounts. Ask him the source of income.
Also ask him how much amount of money you will deposit in the account, how
many time you do transactions, how many time you withdraw the money.
Then according to the requirement and information account operating officer
tell customer the account which is most appropriate.

Saving account

Saving account is an account in which customer save money in the bank and
receive interest at a specific rate after specific time period.

This is an account for only senior citizen. Senior citizens are those who are 55
year or more than 55 years old. Only senior peoples of this age group are
eligible for opening this type of account. The account can be open jointly or
individually. Joint account can be open in the case of husband and wife if the
both of 55 year old or above to 55.

Other feature

 At monthly basis profit is provided to the customer / account holder.


 For the payment of annual charges SMS facility is available.
 Free issuance of first ATM / debit cards.

Bank of Punjab Gharayloo saving Account

This is a product of bank of Punjab like Profit and loss saving account. It is
available only for the housewives. Customer can open only one account at a
time.

Features of gharayloo Account

 Profit payment is made on the monthly basis.


 Transactions of debit and credit are unlimited.
 Free issue of ATM and debit credit.
 SMS alert is available for payments at annual charges.

Bank of Punjab ziada munafa saving account

This account is a product of bank of Punjab which design to attract common


public, especially for small investor and salaried persons.

Feature of ziada munafa saving account

 Minimum amount for opening this account is 10,000 / -.

 Transaction for his account is unlimited.
 First ATM and debit card is free.
 SMS facility is available, at the annual charges.
2) Remittance department

Remittance department is the department of bank of Punjab which deals with


the funds of foreign. A relative, family member or friend transfer the money
from the foreign.

Bank of Punjab is deals with following types of remittance types.

 Xpress money
 Western union
 Easy pay
1. Xpress money

Xpress money is a type of remittance. Which is most common in customer.

Its pin consist of sixteen digits. Head of remittance department require the pin
from the customer, if pin code is consist of sixteen digits operator enter it into
website of Xpress money. If the pin is correct, form of relative person appear
in the front of the screen. Operator enter the require information in the form
and conform the money. And take print of it. Then attach the copy of the
customers CNIC card which receive from the customer of conformation /to
see the original one.

After this process operator put relative stamps on the form, put signature,
take signature of customer and transfer it to the cash department, customer
receive money from the cashier.

2. Easy pay

Easy pay is a second wide website of remittance which is using by the bank of
Punjab. For easy pay there are 15,14,9,11,12,13 digits in pin code. First
operating head check the digits. If the number of pin is consist of from these
above mentioned number of digit operator will enter it into the website of easy
pay. Just like the Xpress money appears in the screen of the computer. Operator
enter all the information (phone number, id card number, expiry date of id card,
issuance date of id card, and phone number).

Then after entering the correct information in the form, operator confirm the
money and attach a copy of ID card. Then after fulfilling further requirements
operator transfer it to the cash department. Cashier give the payment to the
customer along with the customer copy.

3. Western union

Western union is a most complicated type of the remittance. Because it require


detailed data, its data entry is complicated. Pin code of western union is consist
of 10 digits. Customer give a pin code of 10 digits, operating officer of remittance
enter it into website of western union. As Xpress money and easy pay form
appear at the screen of the computer. Operator enter the require data with
required sequence, website of western union require the source of income of the
sender, and relationship of receiver with sender.

Also ask the country of the birth, and that country where the payment is being
received.

Remittance department of the bank of Punjab also deals with other two
payments

 Kashaf payments.
 Peef payments.

Kashaf payments

Kashaf payment is the type of loan in limited range. This type of loan is only for
females.

Creditor return the money in installments.

Process of kashaf payments

Following is a process of kashaf payments.

 First enter the CNIC no without any spacing.


 Then enter the pin code number which writes in the book of loan.
 A form appear at the screen of the computer/ system.
 Operator enter the data into the form.
 Operator enter the amount of money on the wish of customer
(customer can withdraw lass money)
 Confirm the payment.
 Take a print.
 Attach copy of CNIC.
 Put stamps and signature.
 Fill the customer’s signature.
 Transfer it to the cash department.
 Customer receive the money from cashier.

Peef payments

Peef is a fund of government give to the eligible students.

Process to withdraw the payment of peef.

 Receive the card from the student.


 Enter the number write at the face of the card.

 Screen will show the name of the student.
 Take a latter from the student.
 Enter the pin write at the bottom of the paper.
 Confirm the money.
 Take a print.
 Attach a copy of peef card.
 Put stamp, signature of agent and students.
 Transfer it to the cash department.
 Customer receive money from the cashier.

3) Online transfer of money to the branch of the bank


 Person should must be the customer of the same bank.
 Take the copy of ID card.
 Write the branch no of the bank.
 Fill the form of online transfer of money (provided by the bank).
 Form should contain information of both, (sender and receiver).
 Ask customer to put the signature at the different places of the form.
 Attach the copy of CNIC card.
 Give it to the customer and refer him/her to the cash department.

General banking department

It is a department of bank of Punjab which deals with the general banking, i.e fill
the check book, deposit slip/voucher of the bank, issuance of the check book,
enter the manual and computerized data of the check books etc.

How to fill a cheque

Usually customers fill the cheque by their selves. But in the case the customer is
illiterate and do not know how to fill the cheque book.

 Write the date.

 Write the amount in digits.
 Ask customer to put signature or thumb impression.
 Refer toward the cash counter.

How to fill the deposit slip/voucher.

 Write the date.


 Write the branch code.
 Write the account number.
 Write the account title.
 Write the amount in digits and words.
 Take the signature or thump impression of the customer.
 Refer to the cash counter.

4) Department of cash

This department of bank of Punjab deals with the money in form of cash, it
involve the cash drawn of the customer (by cheque), or cash collect by the
customer through the credit slip/ deposit slip or voucher.

Depositing of the cash

For the deposition of money customer comes at cash counter along with the
deposit slip. Which contain information. Cashier check the account number,
branch code, date, signature of the customer. Cashier also check the amount of
money in words and digits either math or not, also count the money that
customer give it to the deposit. Cashier deposit the money. Take original copy of
the voucher. And give copy of deposit slip to the customer as an evidence.

With draw of money

For withdraw of money, customer came at cash counter along with the cheque.

Cashier check the cheque carefully, check the name of the cheque, bank name,
cheque number, date of the cheque, cheque will be accepted only within the
specific limit of the time period. The maximum time period of cash the cheque is
almost six month, if the time has exceed to the six month, the cheque will not be
accepted, the cashier check that either the cheque ia in normal condition, if the
check is torn or unreadable the cheque will not acceptable. Furthermore cashier
check that the amount of money which a customer is demanding is exist in the
account of the customer or not, cashier also check that amount of the money in
words and figure is match or not. Cashier also check the signature of the account
holder and match them, cashier can refuse to give the payment. In the case of
dissatisfaction. Because it is very sensitive matter. If the cashier is satisfied with
the information. He will make payment to the person which come along with
check.

Facility of collection of utility bills

Bank of Punjab collect the payments of utility bills.it is a job of cash department.
Its facility for the customer. Bank of Punjab does not charge any amount of
money for this purpose. Bank of Punjab collect bill of Sui gas, PTCL bills,
electricity bills and chalans/penalty (punishment of any mistake). The cashier
receive the money from the customer and clear the bill after putting the stamp
and signature, cashier also give the part of the bill to the customer as an
evidence. Cashier enter the data in software. Bank of Punjab receive commission
from the departments.

5) Department of clearing

It is a department of bank of Punjab in which bank collect the cheques of other


banks on behalf of customer, and at the end of the day bank transfer it to other

banks through TCS ,NIFT do the all process of clearing, national institute
facilitation technology is known as first hisab ghar.

There are mainly two types of clearing of checque.

 Inward clearing.
 Outward clearing.
 Inward clearing

In this type of clearing, our customer give cheque to other banks. And they
transfer it to our bank through NIFT.

Types of inward cheque

Normal type

It is normal types of clearing. In which banks regularly transfer the cheques.

Special type

It is same day clearing in which with in twenty four hour, agent of NIFT bring the
cheques and give of that bank. Checque give to the agent of NIFT before 10 a.m.

Inter city

Every region allocate the different areas. for example ,In Sialkot region areas of
arowal,daska ,pasroor.

If the clearing is outside of the region it takes time of 48 hours. And the method of
stamping of it is change.

5.4.5 Detailed description of the tasks assign to you or detailed description


of the project assign to you during your internship.

First I worked in general banking, at starting days I specially worked in


deposition of money, I usually filled the voucher of the customer and also fill
the cheque books. But after it I worked in remittance department, I did a lot of
work in remittance, and spend most of my time in the remittance department I
really enjoyed to work in remittance department. I also did also work in
different activities in other department at the order of branch manager, under
the supervision of heads.

5.4.6 Summary of learning

During the internship I learnt a lot, the internship was very good and
purposeful experience of my life. It will be prove more beneficial for my future
job. I learned many things from the organization in which I did my internship.
And internship helped me to acquire more knowledge skills and abilities. The
bank of Punjab is most reputed bank near my city, that’s why I did internship
in that bank and I gained a lot from it. I learn a lot of practical knowledge
under the supervision of heads.

5.4.6.1 What skill and qualifications you think that you have gained from
the internship?

In During of the internship I learnt a lot, the internship was very good and
purposeful experience of my life. It will be prove beneficial for my future job. I
learned many skills from the organization in which I did my internship. I gained a
lot of knowledge. The internship helped me to acquire more knowledge, skills

and abilities. The bank of Punjab is most reputed bank near my city, that’s why I
did internship in that bank and I gained a lot from it. I learn a lot of practical

 Understanding of business environment

This is the most precious skill which I learn after doing internship. I learn how to
behave in business environment. I learn a lot of abilities being the part of bank of
Punjab as an internee.

 Punctuality and obedience

By working under the supervision of professional heads. I learn to obey others. In


my future job I will not hesitate to obey my boss. And I learn regularity because I
learn to be punctual and regular, because in internship the holiday was not
allowed.

 Improve confidence level

Six week internship enhance my different skills and abilities also boost up my
confidence level. This is most important skill I learn from my internship. By
interacting different types of people gain a lot of confidence. Which will obviously
prove helpful in my future job.

 Sense of responsibility and understanding

Six week internship develop the sense of responsibility and understanding in me.
It will very beneficial for me. I learn even minor things about the banking. So it will
help me in my future job to learn other skills. I also learn responsibility of my job.
Because as an internee I worked under the heads. So I was bound complete the
tasks given to me. I enhance my abilities of responsibilities.

Six week internship enhance my different skills including my communication skill
which is necessary for every aspect of life. Because during internship I did
interaction with the different types of people. This has boost up my
communication skills, and it will help me for job interviews and my future job.

5.4.6.2 What kind of responsibilities you have undertaken during the


internship period.

During the period of six week internship I was assigned many tasks. And I did all
task in a best way as possible as I can do. I have some such kind of
responsibilities about which I do not have any knowledge. But I did it and learn
from it.

 Account opening

I have responsibility of account opening. I have responsibility to fill the different


forms of the accounts, manager assign me the responsibility to give information
to the customer about different nature of forms. I was assigned a duty to take the
signatures of the customer at different places of the form. And also put my
signature and stamp on the copies on behalf of the head.

 Fill the deposit slip

I assigned the duty of filling the deposit slip of the customer

 Online money

I assigned the duty of filling the form of the online transfer of the money. From
one branch of Bank of Punjab to another branch.

 Filling the cheque

I assigned a duty to fill the cheque of the customer, who do not know how to fill
the cheque.

I have responsibility to deal the remittance department as a whole, I was a single
head of remittance department. During my internship.

5.4.6.3 How do you think the internship will influence your future career
plans?

This six week internship will obviously influence on my future career plans.
Doing internship I am able to decide that either I can do work under the
supervision of any head. Either I can obey any person or I will do my own
business. I also learn business ethics the formal dressing sense, the color
combination according to the events etc. this will help me in my future job.

5.4.6.4 How do you think internship activities that you carried out are
correlated with your classroom knowledge?

According to me, the internship is obviously correlated with my classroom


knowledge. What I am studying in my course subjects, have done practically
during my six week internship. And internship is also a part my course. It will help
me to give viva of the report of internship. I mentioned above that internship
enhanced my different abilities including confidence. It will prove helpful during
my project defends and presentations.

6 conclusion of the report

6.1 Summery of conclusion derived from my experience

I did my six week internship in bank of Punjab daska Main branch (0056). I learnt
bank of Punjab very closely. I come to know that bank of Punjab is the fastest
growing bank. I felt that bank of Punjab is doing struggle for the satisfaction of
the customer. Bank of Punjab is also using technology for improve the quality of
the services, and to make customer more satisfied. I also learnt that bank of
Punjab is doing many activities for the battlement of our society. I e. give loans to

the government for doing different projects, like building the roads, dams and
other facilities. Also give cheap loans to the needy people.

6.2 General observation about the sector?

Banking is most secure and profitable business in all over the world especially in
Pakistan. Bank of Punjab is at the stage of boom. So it is trying to make
maximum profit, compete to the competitors and exceed or at least the
expectation of the customer. And try to make customer more loyal and satisfied.
It’s a very tough task for the bank of Punjab because the competition is too much
strict with other banks. And many foreigner are coming in the Pakistan for doing
business in banking sector.

6.3 SWOT

Following is the SWOT analysis of the bank of Punjab.

SWOT analysis is the most impartment for every business organization.


Understanding and analysis of the strength, weaknesses opportunity and threads
to the business is very much important for the business.

Strength

 Bank of government (above to 53 % share of the bank in hand of


government).

7. Recommendation

By analyzing the opportunity, threads, strength and weaknesses of the bank of


Punjab. I have evaluate some problems and have some recommendations of it.

 Increase the number of employees.


 Performance of ATM machine should be good.
 Must recruit the fresh graduate staff.
 Design regular based engorgement plan for the employees, that’s why the
employee does not leave.
 Give bonuses to the employees.

 Bank of Punjab should improve the product line
