TO VERIFY THE SAMPLING THEOREM USING DISCRETE
COMPONENTS
OBJECTIVES:
 Understand use and working of sampling theorem.
 Reconstruct the message signal from its sampled value.
 Design sampler circuit using discrete components.

METHODOLOGY:
Sample signals are the signals for which the amplitude is defined as non-zero only for
a certain discrete instant of time. These are used in pulse modulation communication
systems. In task 1 we perform verification of sampling theorem using TIMS trainer.
The modules that we use for TIMS are 2 audio oscillators (1 for variable sampling
frequency and the other for fixed frequency), twin pulse generator, dual analog switch
and tuneable LPF. The tuneable LPF will convert the sampled signal back into the
original signal.

In task 2 we implemented flat top sampling circuit using discrete components. When
the pulse is in form of flat top the noise that is introduced at the transmission pulse
can be easily removed. Also we recovered the original signal by making a low pass
filter. The IC that we are using is LF398 its working is as following:
-Input at pin 3.
-Output at pin 5.
-Ground at 7.
-Clock at 8.
-positive voltage on pin 1 and negative voltage at pin at pin 4.

CONCLUSION:
Sampling is the key technique used to digitalize analog information. For example,
music CDs are produced by sampling live sound at frequent intervals and then
digitizing each sample. The term sampling is also used to describe a similar process in
digital photography.

Both lab tasks were performed successfully and their results were displayed on the
oscilloscope. We also learned that how sampling reduces aliasing by using
reconstruction filter.
