Q. 1 Why was the speaker throwing his shoes in the middle of the night?
ans ) 1. The speaker was trying to go to sleep, but the sound of a mouse gnawing
through the wood kept him awake. So he threw his shoes, one after the other, hoping to
stop the mouse.

room with lights. The speaker found that he had reached Harris’s bed. He explained
what he had been doing. Then everyone left and started preparing for breakfast, as the
night was almost over.
