Dear Parent,

My name is Nadine Putrous and I am in the health education program here at Wayne
state university. My major is in health and my minor is in physical education. I have always
wanted to be a teacher ever since I can remember. This program has brought me such joy. I
enjoy coaching because I am working in a fun environment with lots of energy and laughter. I
entered the physical education field because I am passionate about helping others be physically
active!
My first impression of Kevin was that he is very independent. He did not want my help
when it came to explaining on how to the warm up. He would read off the sheet of paper
placed on the wall and start doing what it said to do. When I would explain to him what the
station is asking him to do he was already done and moving on to the next station. He has a lot
of energy and is a lot of fun.
Kevin has many strengths, especially when it came to direction. He is a great listener and
does exactly what is asked of him. When he has a question, he does not hesitate to ask. He is
very good with anything that must do with a ball. He can shoot a basket and dribble a ball with
both hands. When it came to running, and galloping he did it so well. His ultimate strength
would have to be that he does not give up. If he can’t do something the first time like hitting a
ball with a bat he makes sure to keep trying until he does get it. His social skills are very
impressing as well, everyone who was around him go a high five from him and clapped for
anyone who the stations before him. He had helped his sister with the stations as well and was
such a great big brother during the entire lesson. He made sure to pass the equipment to
whomever was next without having to be asked to do so. He waited his turn and is always
excited to do whatever was next.
When it came to improving a skill, Kevin does not need improving but he does not want
to continue to do something for a long time. I would say he would only need to improve doing
something multiple times without moving onto the next thing so quickly. Have Kevin dribble a
ball for thirty seconds and back and forth between dribbling and doing an overhand throw. He
doesn’t need to improve a skill in my opinion he just needs to prolong the time he puts into
doing a skill. I think playing a game of basketball or baseball with his siblings or his parents
might help with his timing.
While coaching, I noticed an improvement in his two-hand strike and his slide. He was so
excited when it came to hitting a ball with a bat, that he kept missing the first few times he did
it. Once it was explained to him how to properly hold the bat and how to swing he didn’t miss.
We went to other stations by sliding to them and it started to look somewhat like a gallop but
once he practiced a few times he got the hang of it. We went to each station by galloping and
sliding so he knew the exact difference between them. We repeatedly went back to the two-
hand strike to improve his skill.
Adaptive MOGO: Detroit Bike share would be a program that provides cycling options
for all riders. I think that it would be great way to expand Kevin’s skills. He would be working on
his balance and getting and having fun at the same time. He would be able to go riding with his
parents on Campus Matrius and not only enjoy our beautiful city of Detroit but getting a great
workout with his family!

Sincerely,
Nadine Putrous
